Was at a Christmas party with a load of clergy last night and as some people were leaving they found a person collapsed on the street outside so the Verger took over and called an ambulance and sent all the clergy away because "if they wake up surrounded by priests that'll just make things worse"

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

I've completed my first Pickleball session. It's like playing table tennis on a badminton court and there are some odd rules, the scoring seems weirder than it needs to be and my back is aching a little, but it was decent fun and I hope to be invited back. And it got me out of the house.

Imagine if the UK made a decision to distinguish its tech sector by making it ethical and factual and observant of copyright. As the rest of the world drops into a hell of misinformation, that could be our USP. And I think it's a promising idea. Of course we're not going to do it.

Seen my first swifts of the year. ("SWIFTS!!!")
Also, flying down our road and then perching awhile on nextdoor's roof, what I'm fairly sure was a sparrowhawk. I know if we're going to enthuse about birds we should enthuse about them equally, but sparrowhawks are kind of hard to love, no?
