"Alas! 'Tis Glorfindel and the Balrog".
These people are cartoonishly villainous. This woman shot a puppy in the face and here she is performing on horseback like some burlesque tramp while using tax payer money to do it... AND... ensuring that money is kicked back to her personally. It's all a grift.

JD Vance owns a company that buys American real estate and sells it to foreign investors. They specifically target Americans in crisis to buy their property for less than it is worth.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

Jesus Christ! In the 1990s this guy was one of the main villains responsible for the deregulation spree that caused the 2008 crash. Why are these guys indispensable! Any moron off the street can say "Duhh taxes and regulation are bad"
NEW: Before the recent Epstein disclosures, Larry Summers was poised to lead the economic policy plank for the Democrats' "Project 2029" effort at the Center for American Progress. He signed off on a housing policy paper CAP was prepping for next week.

Resign.
I will not support the Republican bill that’s on the Senate floor because it fails to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.

You didn't get a vote. You got a "promise" of a vote. From a party who is disappearing nannies & gardeners and zip-tying children. A party who has flushed Due Process in America down the toilet. Who has subjugated its Congressional duties to an autocrat. That's what everybody sees, Tim.
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

Democrats really saw a massive swell in support on election night with the voter base screaming at them to fight Trump tooth-and-nail and decided "yep, time to surrender."

It's sad how on-brand that approach is for Senate Democrats.

It would have been better to simply cave on day one than do this. how can you ask anyone to suffer through a shutdown ever again, if you can deliver *nothing*?

Those who enjoy both The Rings of Power (season one, specifically) and Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein may be interested to know that both feature the same costume designer: the wonderful Kate Hawley!

Hawley also worked on The Hobbit trilogy, which del Toro was originally set to direct.

I finally saw Frankenstein last night. I don't think I was prepared for how slutty and cunty Oscar Isaac's portrayal would be, but I was even more unprepared for how brilliant Jacob Elordi's portrayal of the monster would be. I think he is quite a remarkable actor.

Three of my neighbors were forcibly illegally detained over night by masked ICE agents who refused to show ID, my youngest kid died of measles, and I can’t afford to feed the other two, but at least I sleep easy at night knowing the damn Jew at the bagel shop has to say “Merry Christmas” this year.

I work for New York State and live paycheck to paycheck. I like my life, I like my job, and the benefits are great. But New York does not pay enough for what I do. I cannot imagine having to hold down a job while earning NOTHING. I think that is simply unconscionable.
Among the things that the shutdown is laying bare is this: so many federal employees live paycheck to paycheck while doing crucial, stressful work. The same may be said, of course, of so many other working Americans. While our oligarch class rakes in money hand over fist. This is not sustainable.
OPINION by Jack Criss, air traffic controller:

“After my shift, I don’t go home to rest. I clock into DoorDash, trying to make ends meet for my daughter and me.”

Empires are constantly having to re-assert their dominance. When the dominant group feels weakened, they blame it on women, immigrants, and people they don't like enjoying lots of sex they don't approve of.

He wrote a chapter or two but abandoned it as “too depressing”.
