The pundit class's notion of "free speech" is predicated on a division of humanity into those who *participate* in debates and those who are the *topic* of debate, where treating one of the former as if they were one of the latter is seen as the direst of all threats to "free speech".
Why was Summers's infamous sexism not already seen as disqualifying?

(Yes I know why.)

(Yes this does in fact make it much worse.)
NEW: Before the recent Epstein disclosures, Larry Summers was poised to lead the economic policy plank for the Democrats' "Project 2029" effort at the Center for American Progress. He signed off on a housing policy paper CAP was prepping for next week.

If you don't already agree that there's a moral panic over transgender care, just read the New York Times' articles on hormone therapy for cis people and compare them to their hit pieces on the hormone therapy for trans people.

There are many valid ways of processing loss, and approaches to such things can depend a lot on one's own mental state, the way one related to the deceased, and the cultural context. So *usually* I try not to judge.

All that said, WHAT THE FUCK?

If we as a society are going to have any concept of crime (something about which I am ambivalent), then this shit needs to be considered some kind of criminal recklessness.

One would think that if you had a new & poorly-understood tool, about which nobody was prepared to offer any reliability guarantees, you might try using it for low-stakes things for a while & take some notes about that before using it for obviously life-or-death stuff.

New from 404 Media: Microsoft and nuclear power company Westinghouse Nuclear want to use AI to speed up the construction of new nuclear power plants in the United States.

"may lead [..] to catastrophic nuclear consequences" and distrust of nuclear tech

Power Companies Are Using AI To Build Nuclear Power Plants
Tech companies are betting big on nuclear energy to meet AIs massive power demands and they're using that AI to speed up the construction of new nuclear power plants.

[taps radical feminist sign]

When they talk about "protecting" women they mean in the sense of securing/maintaining-control-of important or valuable resources, not in the sense of defending the autonomy and wellbeing of people.
Nancy Mace keeps insisting Trump "protects" women, even as she voted to release the Epstein files.

This is incoherent, but her nonsense reflects a deeper dilemma facing all Republican women: keeping up their delusions about Trump.

Sorry, Nancy Mace. Donald Trump hasn’t “protected women”

Not to put too fine a point on it, but they way they *get* annoyed at people, and how they *decide* who to be annoyed at, is through social media.

This future is Thomas Chatterton Williams arguing in the Atlantic with ten Twitter leftists who called him 'Whomas Thateterton Cilliams' forever.
legitimately i think one of the core failings of centrist pundits is that they have come to define themselves by what they are against--to chart their intellectual course by who they think is being annoying this week--instead of by recourse to genuine principle

Seen on CNN front page.

The claim that Trump "hasn't been accused of wrongdoing" in connection with Epstein would presumably come as a shock to Katie Johnson.

Does "accused" or "wrongdoing" mean something different for the folks at CNN?

Partly this but also partly, like, when somebody talks about the depravity and/or degeneracy of "elites", IME there's a good chance they're using "elites" to mean either "queer people" or "Jews"
What would be "reactionary-coded" be in this case? Fire and brimstone? Seriously asking.
man we need a way to say "the moral rot and depravity of this country's elite must be burned out of it with cleansing fire" that isn't wildly reactionary-coded
