Blog update: I wrote up a few quick thoughts on Anthropic's new report indicating that Large Language Models are capable of introspective awareness. My conclusion: Eventually we need to bite the bullet and accept that serious moral regard can stem from uncertainty.

It’s a suite of models spanning 300M–7B parameters that transcribe speech in 1,600+ languages, including 500 that no ASR has reached before. Think internet-scale coverage, low-resource inclusivity, and modular components you can remix.

This is why ousting Schumer isn't enough. Democratic senators don't pressure each other much, they have weak leadership by design, and they want to preserve arcane Senate rules that let them hide behind process.

Without primaries or massive outside pressure, this is where they'll be.
“There’s no real appetite to oust Schumer, though. Nor is there any interest from another Democrat to challenge him, according to interviews with more than a dozen Democratic senators.” @punchbowlnews.bsky.social

Oh Sen Dems are not in disarray - they are in array - in their collective cowardice.

as it turns out Adrian Tchaikovsky essentially wrote a science fiction novel about nearly everything I functionally believe in when it comes to other minds and that novel is called Children of Memory. that's so fucking funny.

It is hard to comprehend just how feckless and pathetic the democratic leadership is. It is impossible to express just how impotent and self defeating they are. It is a self censoring fact. It is almost unspeakable.
BREAKING

The 1st Circuit REJECTS Trump DOJ's request to pause a judge's order to pay up Nov's SNAP funds to the states.

The SCOTUS stay will expire within 48 hours absent further action from the justices, per its terms.

Why would you want to be a proud Dem? Your leaders will tell you the best way to win is by losing, that you’re a naive fool if you want them to stand up for anything, and they’ll brag to each other and the press about how they’re smart enough to ignore you.

You’re joining a team that hates you!

A lot of people have observed that the Democrats’ deep unpopularity comes from the fact that absolutely everyone wants to complain about them and nobody wants to defend them.

This is true, but a lot of THAT dynamic comes from the fact that Dems are regularly punching their supporters in the face!

This is literally where I am.

I can understand the ACA decision, but the core goal of this shutdown was to try and assert some manner of "the executive branch will follow the goddamn law"

We didn't get that, at all.
Still upset about no power of the purse language. You truly do hate to see it. The Trump admin undertook the most expansive set of illegal budgetary actions of any president in history, and broadcast as loudly as possible they’d keep doing it, and nothing. Budgetary lawlessness.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.
