I've realised recently that some people have very different ideas of what "personal liberties" actually are. See, I thought it was being able to love whoever you might love, live an authentic life with an identity that fits you & bodily autonomy. Turns out it's just about cash, property & guns.
SCOOP: WaPo Opinion editor David Shipley is out. Jeff Bezos emails staff about a change to Post Opinions: "We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets."

British politics really needs to wake up to what is happening in America given we have imported a huge amount of its culture war politics. Maybe there are some clues about what would be on the cards here under a Reform government?

I have ADHD and I'm in awe of how poor is attention span is
Q: My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk. How are you holding up?

TRUMP: I think very good. And by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get for about 150 years.

This'll be very telling when he comes to speak. If Farage uses his appearance in front of that committee to encourage a foreign state to bully his own country, he'll have crossed a very specific line.
Politico: "The Sun has seen evidence to [a US] committee submitted by Nigel Farage in which he suggests the White House should use “diplomacy and trade” in the free speech battle, which sounds like calling for Britain to be bullied into a law change."

Is Farage calling for sanctions AGAINST the UK?

I don't want to hear another goddamned word about Kamala not running a good enough campaign, not having primaries, etc.

She tried to warn everyone and now all those people who wouldn't lift a finger to preserve democracy in the election are demanding democrats "dO sOmEtHiNg!"

They don't want immigration, yet they object to projects aiming to tackle the climate crisis & improve quality of life in other countries - you know, things that might make people go, "You know what? Maybe I won't spend all I have to make a perilous journey & start again completely from scratch."

The truth is not dead. All we need to do is LISTEN to them.

In case you can't tell what just happened, JK Rowling instructed her followers to take photos of anyone in a women's restroom who doesn't match their idea of Western feminine beauty standards. Short hair? Thick cheekbones/jaw? Too tall or broad-shouldered? You're now "a man" and will be harassed.
If you're still buying wizard book shit, you are no friend to the trans community. Here's the wizard book bigot inciting harassment against innocent people to her 14 million followers on the nazi app.

And no, they can't Always Tell.

My partner and I were talking about the by-election in Scotland last night - I googled at least the forst 5 articles were about how well Reform (who lost) have apparently done. Labour (who won) barely mentioned - another Google and the first mention of him is parroting Reform criticism.
When did you ever hear the BBC stating that it must alter “story selection” and “other types of output, such as drama”, to win the trust of Green voters, or of unrepresented people on the left?
All the shifts are in just one direction.

An incredible man, so wronged.
On the 7th of June, 1954, Alan Turing died. He was discovered the following day. His birthday would have been the 23rd of June. He had opted for chemical castration following his conviction for homsexuality and indecency.

Now, of course, we celebrate June as Pride Month.

I know this has happened before, but it is incredibly chilling, nonetheless. One cannot ignore how emboldened some sort of people have become. My thoughts are with those affected, and scared.

Reproductive rights should not up for debate, wherever you are.

For over ten weeks, Israeli forces have blocked food, water and medicine from entering Gaza.

With over two million facing famine and the Netanyahu Government planning to seize all of Gaza, will the PM back a joint plan to recognise Palestine and end this appalling blockade?

Obligatory mention of the indiscriminate NI hike, that has impacted the voluntary sector and others vital for prevention and community care. Have they spoken to anyone in local government?
Yvette Cooper repeatedly refused to give a straight answer just now on Today to straight Q “Will councils get more money to pay care workers more?” She repeatedly committed to higher carer pay but wouldn’t commit to money so councils can fund it. Think that speaks volumes about the mess we are in.

Understand this sentiment as LGBTQ+ Lib Dems and LD Women in particular have been excellent, and the national party have been decent. However, perhaps there is some worthwhile feedback in the comments and statements could be stronger. I get that criticising judges isn't a road we want to go down...
STATEMENT ON PRIDE:
While we understand #Pride organisers' frustrations with Labour and the Conservatives' swithering on LGBT+ and especially trans+ rights of late, we are sickened to our core to be lumped together with them in a blanket suspension on parties attending major Prides this year.

To normalise Nigel Farage, is to normalise Donald Trump.

We, the media, have to wise up fast.

The mainstream media have platformed Farage when he was basically a nobody for years, and now Reform get disproportionate coverage since last year’s GE despite the Lib Dem’s 70+ seats. They are responsible for this situation.

The death cult of extremist tin pot capitalism is upon us - the repeated failure of the mass media to hold these people to account is disastrous and as they destroy the world for the profit of the few they will cause pain and poverty for multitudes

We know the threat Reform poses – to our communities, our democracy and our precious liberal values. We know where their divisive, destructive brand of politics could lead.

Other parties can't or won't stand up to them. It's up to us to be the antidote to Reform's hate and division.

Today, I learned that I am not over this silly cat from like 2018. I came across these photos while looking for something else…
He had a fever, we nursed him back to health. One of my housemates didn’t want a cat though, which is fair, but I came back from work to find him gone and I’m still upset.

Listening to some MCR Three Cheers/Black Parade tonight & really caught off guard by the realisation that those albums are 20 years old, as old (almost) as the OMD, Tears For Fears, XTC & Peter Gabriel albums my dad put on my first iPod were then 😭 (thanks to my dad for having good music taste tho)
