So excited to share the UK cover of my forthcoming book THE TRAVELLER ... which is about a quite remarkable human being. George Forster, a man who tried to find what connects us rather than what sets us apart - he saw unity behind our diversity, not discord and division.

I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

BREAKING: The Senate just passed the Epstein bill by unanimous consent.

The bill will automatically pass once it's delivered to the Senate and will then advance to Trump's desk for him to sign — possibly as early as this evening.

Teaching on the meaning of life again, and it dawns on me (I'm a slow learner) that the way in which the question of life's meaning can be asked in a cosmic register (can any human life have meaning?) or in a quotidian register (why are some human lives more meaningful than others?) recurs. 1/

My 19 month old son is super into sealife and oceans and can now identify and name anglerfish and angelfish, which is pretty impressive given he's still taking a random punt on whether any particular woman in the room is Mama

After watching Nuremberg I bought this excellent book. I highly recommend. “Aftermath” by Harald Jahner. Utterly depressing to read, for someone who wants to believe in human goodness. But important in so many ways.

Saw the new Nuremberg movie last night. I think it’s just what this moment needs: an unmistakably direct and political story that reminds Americans that Nazism is bad, demagoguery is bad, racism is bad, and that crimes against humanity must not only be stopped but also punished.

New on my blog: I posted a paper I wrote earlier this year, “Merleau-Ponty’s Ontology of Sense and Non-Sense.” I’m pretty proud of it and plan to include it in a future edition of my book. It talks a little about Hegel; that’s an area I’m still planning on diving into further on a future blog post.

No opinion about this specific claim, but I do think we need more humanities in our lives and hearts and minds. And more arts. More history, more literature, more painting, more moral philosophy, more poetry. More thinking about and cherishing what makes human life special.
I don’t know about you but I sincerely believe that Zohran Mamdani’s BA Major in Africana Studies enabled him to understand our current conjuncture & its demands of justice. Humanities shape minds & in his case for the better.

The sad reality. Not posting to discourage anyone from getting a PhD, but we should do more to normalize people philosophizing without a PhD.
Every few months people post questions about whether or not to do a humanities PhD. My take is if you are fine with living in poverty levels, then do it. Otherwise, get a practical breadwinning career and then do it in your spare time later for your own edification.
