Add to this that HSI just filed a declaration in our case challenging these policies saying they can’t trust REAL IDs as proof of status.

So showing your papers isn’t even enough to end the stop.

I was in law school at the time and was very conservative (although I called it “libertarian”). This decision was actually what destroyed any interest I had in America’s conservative politics and today I am a proud normie Democrat with strong sympathies for radical structural change.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.

Congestion pricing is an extremely effective way to raise revenue, improve safety, and cut pollution.
Wow... NYC's congestion pricing has led to big drops in PM2.5 and real improvements in local air quality.

When we briefed and argued Patchak v. Zinke, I was very worried that the Congress would take the case to mean that it should start making all of its legislation unreviewable. I still am. But I am also secretly hoping that the next Congress does just that.

I'm basically a single issue voter in the next presidential primary: whichever candidate will take court reform the most seriously. You won't be able to govern without it.

I know I've said this before, but I used to really respect and admire Randy Barnett. That he has decided to spend his late career endorsing patently fraudulent arguments in favor of illiberalism is shameful.
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

It's good—very good, and very important—that district courts keep issuing these 100-page rulings upholding the law. It must be incredibly dispiriting to see them overturned in a two-page, lawless, unsigned order, but please, keep them coming. They expose SCOTUS' corruption like nothing else.

The dripping contempt the right wing SCOTUS majority holds for district judges is truly a sight to behold every time. When they deign to give actual reasons for their shadow docket holdings, it’s “look at the absolute idiots who keep getting everything wrong!”

I'm less naive about universities' sense of responsibility to their students than a few years ago, but it still feels like a gut-punch to read "no comment" where it should say, "Ms. López is a valued member of our campus community. She should be here, and we vigorously oppose her deportation."

A college student complaining about a grade on a paper is not national news. Not even close. The details have minimal import outside the class itself.

Well-funded political activists targeting profs and TAs—in this case because they're trans—with the help of elected state officials? National issue.
