There's a medium-sized message here on the safety of buildings based on the size of their floorplates and number of stairwells.

There's an enormous message here on how important it is for our safety rules to be evidence-based.
Consultants contracted by Minnesota found that an eight-story single-stair building with 6,000 sq. ft. per floor (building 4) has dramatically lower fire risk than a same-height code-compliant two-stair building with a larger floor plate (building 1) www.dli.mn.gov/sites/defaul...

To go with its unique land use and planning, the US has the worst fire safety in the rich world. It has the worst police response time. It has the worst vehicle fatality rates. The US policy of sprawl is objectively unsafe. Zoning isn't killing the neighborhood character. It's killing our neighbors.

Y'all this was the chance to reverse decades of land loss and save the Louisiana coast. It took years of work to set up and today the GOP pulled the plug.
Louisiana officially halts a $3 billion coastal restoration funded by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill settlement money, state and federal agencies confirmed. It was intended to rebuild upward of 20 square miles of land in southeast Louisiana to combat sea level rise and erosion on the Gulf Coast.

In the meantime, Battery EMUs are clearly a better bridge technology than Hydrogen EMUs. Hydrogen requires costly fueling infrastructure that will be abandoned; battery can be charged en route using strategic progressive electrification, and charging stations double as future catenary substations.

A gondola running from Los Angeles Union Station to one of our biggest tourism draws is so transparently good for the environment, and here's the state's preeminent environmental law delaying it. Thank goodness we exempted infill housing from this silliness.

at *absolute minimum*, the inevitable 100s of millions of settlement money needs to come out of the LAPD budget, not the general fund. If they want to spend millions of our dollars so Officer Greg can live out his fantasy of shooting unarmed people, they've got to lay off thousands to pay for it.

In crashes, high-fronted cars typically strike adult pedestrians above the centre of gravity, often first hitting vital organs.

The higher the vehicle front the more likely a person will be knocked under the car, rather than pushed to the side, at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
