Hello! 👋 Have you been here a while? I noticed you followed me but your name isn't familiar? I don't think I've followed you from either mastodon or Twitter/X. Do let me know how you found me.

And if I haven't filled back, it's probably because you have posted nothing on your feed.

Happy b’day “When Doves Cry” — released 41 yrs ago today.

On his last night of mixing, Prince started removing instrument tracks, said engineer Peggy McCreary. “The last thing he did was he punched that bass out. He smiled at me and said, ‘Ain’t nobody gonna believe I’d do this.’ And he did.” 🕊️

Last Dec 2024, @scott.hanselman.com shared his journey of putting together Soundwave by Metal Earth. I showed it to my BFF. I found out that they also have a model of ECTO-1.

Today my BFF sent me this. Looks like I have a new hobby. Now I need to buy some tools.

Just realized that I haven't posted the two binds I finished. Both notebooks are done in crisscross binding (a.k.a. secret belgian binding) but in different variants.

Before the year is out, I'm going to make a new journal for 2025. Charles Darwin had a notebook that was bound at the head instead of the side. It measured 170 x 130 mm. darwin-online.org.uk/content/fram... It's the perfect size for adding photos too.

‘Whelmed’ really means ‘capsized’ - the over and under were added later for effect. But you can be consolate: consoled and comforted. And gruntled too.
I can be overwhelmed or underwhelmed, but I can’t be whelmed.

Or, at least, I think theoretically I could but the way I have set up my life seems to have made it very difficult.

I would love to spend more of my life whelmed. Someone whelm me.

Whoa. AWS appears to have started the process of deprecating EC2 reserved instances in favor of savings plans.

Pricing page removes them, new instance types can’t get them, documentation warns you away from them (and over to SPs).

Called my bank today & after authenticating via various reasonable methods the agent said that next time it would be faster now that they saved my voice print.
😬
I had to have them remove that feature from my account immediately as a form of “authentication.”
They sounded surprised I didn’t want it.

A big difference between Bluesky and Mastodon is that you can treat Bluesky as "Twitter 2" and your user experience will be largely unchanged.

The same is not true for Mastodon, where your initial server choice shapes a lot about your experience of the platform.
I think Bluesky’s AT Protocol thing sounds neat, but it’s not why people are using Bluesky. We’re here because it’s Twitter 2

It’s like if a Taco Bell cashier said “All our profits go towards building a ring of standing stones in the darkest forest” you’d say “Nice. So I’ll have a doritos chalupa”
