Ruth Wilson Gilmore's definition of the prison-industrial complex (PIC) is so useful.

As Gilmore and Craig Gilmore note, equating industrial with profit can disappear the state, and "the outcome of capitalist activity stands in for the complicated relationships that enable or change that outcome."

I'm curious what other researchers are doing when finding relevant literature in languages they don't speak, especially when not part of a funded study with a budget for translation. Are people finding funds for this somewhere, or just not really looking at literature in other languages?

It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

Teen Vogue and their incredible reporters have been the bar for a bunch of years... Their reporting was the frontline of holding back fascism and protecting all of us.

Today is a dark day. (And personally, Lex and the other Teen Vogue reporters are just awesome people.)
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

This sucks. Was just talking yesterday about what an amazing thing Teen Vogue is for its political coverage.

"As long as the university system in the UK is so wildly underfunded as it is now, universities will be vulnerable to attacks like this." That’s the crux of it, isn’t it?

Florida’s decision to end vaccine mandates is 100% going to make Disney World one of the world’s biggest infectious disease reservoirs, what with the huge numbers of visitors from around the world that mix there - right?
FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.
