Head of NASA Sean Duffy intends to destroy a satellite that collects key data on carbon dioxide and plant health, by causing it to burn up in the atmosphere. The U.S. Dept of Agriculture and private agriculture firms use the data to forecast crop yield, drought conditions and more.

As someone who does a lot of indie work (and loves doin it) — the amount of extreme luck, unpaid labor, and emotional and financial risk required does not make it an easier or more viable option in any form of entertainment media.

I’ve done games, comics, animations, etc. It doesn’t get any easier

it's rly gratifying to have jess explicitly call back to us talking abt this! to my memory, it was a very classic-but-difficult development conversation of "hey: here's something your game is saying. it's ok if you want it to say that, but if you don't, it's important to change it"
I am careful to say in the rulebook that neither The Parliament, my analogue for the council, or The Intelligence, my analogue for the spies and saboteurs, are “the good guy” or “the bad guy.” In designing the second edition of Going Rogue, satah, [the game’s] system design consultant, really challenged me to ensure the desire choices for The Parliament pillar actually communicated the ways it’s also vital to accomplishing revolution — allies, support, embodying our ideals. Both pillars represent necessary parts of a revolutionary movement that must be balanced for it to succeed. A movement that is too cautious and conciliatory, unable to take risks for fear of ‘optics’ or collateral damage to the innocent, will never overthrow the forces that oppress it. But a movement that is unaccountable to its participants and the people at large and willing to go to any length in its violence without a consideration of the consequences will inevitably replicate many of the oppressive structures it sought to overthrow — a machine whose main output is violence will always continue to produce violence.

I have said for years that polite, ostensibly supportive liberals quietly think in private that transition is a lifestyle choice, not medicine - a nice to have, ultimately boutique luxury that must be shelved during hard times. and they're going to shrug sadly and tell us that these are hard times.

The House Republican reconciliation bill will now ban both surgeries and HRT prescription under Medicaid for all Americans.

Earlier, I posted that it wouldn’t affect HRT. This is incorrect.

I was mistaken, because the bill refers to medications for trans people… as “procedures.”

I really loved Star Wars Andor's finale, but I really have an issue with its final treatment of Bix, and I've been trying to articulate it for my video essay - but I'm curious about people's thoughts.
Bix’s entire character is reduced to getting pregnant off-screen, embodying this idyllic image of femininity—standing in an Elysian field that Cassian is denied because he followed his “destiny.” It frames his death in Rogue One as even more tragic, as if his sacrifice meant forfeiting the supposed reward of a heterosexual family in a pastoral paradise—the kind of idealized life that patriarchal culture so often glorifies. Thus, Bix’s pregnancy isn’t portrayed as a symbol of her survival or agency; it’s reduced to a vehicle for continuing Cassian’s biological lineage—a consolation prize meant to reassure the audience with, well, at least his legacy lives on through a child. It reinforces the idea that worth and legacy are only truly meaningful when tied to heterosexual, biological reproduction. And the fandom latched onto it, already eagerly theorizing about how Cassian’s kid might show up in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie or whatever spin-off Disney drums up next. It’s emblematic of how deeply Star Wars—and broader culture—fetishizes biological legacy as the ultimate measure of someone’s impact. It’s the same mentality that drives Star Trek: Picard Season 3, with its obsession over legacy through children, and the demand for Star Trek: Legacy to be about the next generation of TNG’s offspring. We just broke free of the Skywalker saga, only to rush right back into venerating bloodlines. I hate that Cassian has a kid—I hate it so much. Not because parenthood is inherently problematic, but because it feels like the show is saying, Hey, it’s okay. He had a kid. His legacy lives on. As if the only way to matter in this universe is through biological reproduction, not through collective action, not through the community he helped build, not through the revolution he inspired. His defiance, his struggle—those things get overshadowed by the comfort of a bloodline. MORE BELOW
