Adding Alt Text image descriptions matters.

There a lot of people with a range of disabilities & needs, who can only understand what a photo in your post is saying if you tell them!

Without Alt Text, the attached photo would be meaningless.

Thoughts on #COP30:

1/ This is the first time in years delegates have been brought face to face with those on the frontline. The indigenous communities are the heroes of this COP. They refused to be silenced.

Spring bulbs didn't do well last year in exceptionally large containers. Can't replace that amount of soil. Advice please about how to re-store the soil to productivity so the flowers bloom again.

So, I'm really kind of fucking annoyed and disappointed with Mozilla enabling AI in Firefox by default and not giving users a simple opt out switch.

I have disabled it in my firefox via 'about:config' , if you want to too, here's how to disable it completely or enable certain bits you find useful

There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

Tessa Munt MP calls for urgent action to accelerate #MECFS research. The UK has spent just £10 million over 12 years — about 60p per patient/year. Four times more went on a helicopter for a former PM, 12 times more on a bat tunnel for HS2. Why isn’t ME a strategic research priority?

Are you a slightly effeminate man or a somewhat butch woman, or do you know literally anyone looking like that? Then this crap affects you. It's a charter for bullies to cause harm, and nothing more.
You're not asking trans people. You're asking all people. This affects us all. Anyone could be barred from services based on appearance. Since, surprisingly we all have a fecking appearance

It stops sorting your inbox into folders, btw, when you turn this off. As the inbox folders predate Gemini, this is a passive-aggressive attempt to make gmail a miserable experience unless you turn AI on, not a necessity.

Really, *really* inconvenient but makes me more determined to keep it off.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

FYI: turning off "Smart features" also turns off spell check and the promotions and social tabs. And more.

In effect, a lot of traditional tools in gmail are switched off if you don't let them upload your contracts, love notes, and sad messages to your friends into their plagiarism machine.
