Someone has sent me a 'chat' message. Sorry, I can't access it. It's not that I object to giving Bluesky my age - but without my age it will hopefully prevent me from inadvertently accessing things I would rather avoid.
Advice please re. growing potatoes. My second earlies, Acoustic, have arrived. It seems a bit too soon to start chitting them. ????? Should I just set them out in their egg boxes as planned? Or, if not, how do I store them for the next few weeks?

Suspension of disbelief works happily till police (or anyone) searching a house in a film open drawers with virtually nothing in them. Manufacturers wouldn't sell furniture with drawers if there weren't a need for them and 'real life' drawers are too small not too empty - full of paper and string.

People who know about cameras -
Finding settings on my new (Lumix TZ99) cumbersome and unintuitive. It thinks I want light to be evened out over everything and everything to be clear. But I want photos to be accurate with invisible patches remaining invisible and light dull if the evening is dull.

I wish I could win the National Lottery without actually buying a ticket. Just wake up one morning and find I'm a multi-millionaire. (Not sure one million would be enough.)

I may be misunderstanding something . . . people are getting excited about all the interesting flowers they are recording for the #NewYearPlantHunt - but wouldn't it be more reassuring if there were fewer rather than more plants flowering at this time of year? ????

Just managed to sneak a final #DailyNatire in before the end of the year! Frosty spiderweb on my local heathland. I’m so glad it’s properly wintry now ❄️

1️⃣ 7-spot Ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata) on my local heathland.

What a great place for an over-winter snooze!

It was actually a bit warmer on the coast today than it was a few miles inland, but still gloriously harsh with a penetrating wind. Cley beach was superb, a single confiding snow bunting was appropriate.

I enjoy what supermarkets think are suitable substitutes for products they don't have in stock. Today they suggest instead of buying sunflower oil I buy 'fruit and cereals oat flake semolina' instead. I don't even know what that is, let alone how I'd use it for frying onions in.

I'll need to return to Saddleworth Moor when it isn't evening. Being a bit warmer might help too. But here are some woods. At the foot of the woods, a reservoir. Towering over both, more hills. It's all very wonderful. There were some exotic pheasants too but I didn't photograph them. 28th Dec 2025
