The First World War took the lives of about 2,900 Toronto residents, or about two per cent of the city’s male population. This map owes a lot to the Canadian Great War Project, which was generous about sharing its research. /2 t.co/Z2HMqKg2dk

Here is a working link to the original Poppy File map, which shows about 3,300 of Toronto's Second World War war dead at the household level. Click on a home to see details. The First World War map follows in the thread /1 t.co/4P9GUkl8m0

A great summary of the Canadian election for those outside of the Great White North (and even some in it).
A lot of Americans don't know this, but the winner of the Canadian election will be required live in a small cottage located in the backyard of the palace where the viceroy to the King of England lives.

The cottage just recently got a new wifi router, which was very exciting for all Canadians.

Good news: we are indeed living in precedented times.

Bad news: the precedents are all terrible.

If your argument is "sure, a terrible modern event has a parallel in the 1920s and 30s but don't worry we turned out just fine", might I suggest reading about the 1940s.

From 2022-2024, US Customs & Border Patrol has seized, on average, less than 20 pounds of fentanyl per year coming from Canada into the US. A backpack full, maybe.

Canada represents 0.2% of fentanyl coming into the US.

The whole Canadian fentanyl thing is just a glossy reboot of Iraqi WMDs.
This is unbecoming of anyone serving in elected office. There’s also a logical conclusion to his “three ways of stopping this,” and it’s absolutely fucking insane.

For the vast majority of Americans, this will earn you a flashbang at 3am, some missing teeth, and rotting in a jail cell.

But somehow we can't do squat when it's a guy already surrounded by armed federal agents.
Trump has just posted photos of the daughter of the judge in his hush money trial. It is beyond the pale.

New users, you have to follow WAY more people here for an active timeline than you did on Twitter.

If this place feels dead, you’re almost certainly not following enough other users.

There’s no centralized algorithm that just puts stuff in front of you - although you can subscribe to feeds.
