every single successful general strike in US history has had union backing through the local AFL-CIO

this is the first time it’s been called for since the 1940s

this is very much not the core of the issue. we tolerate all sorts of biological advantages and disadvantages in sports. the real fundamental question here is: why is this one different than the others?

People are in the streets in greater numbers than the first Trump term and party ID is shifting more significantly, and yet the Democratic Party has been considerably more accommodationist
New party identification polling from Gallup this week shows Americans are moving against Trump faster than they did in his first term. Adults were R+4 in 2024, now D+8. That 12-pt drop is 3x the change in the first year of his first term.

Backlash to Trump has been higher in his second term
Gallup's latest data shows Republican party identification down 6 points in Trump's second term — three times the decline in 2017

A buddy in MN shared a drawing a classmate of his kid made. They've been making thank you notes for parents who have volunteered to carpool them to school so their own parents don't have to risk waiting out by the bus stop.

Remember: when we say "Abolish ICE" that includes the support structure aiding them like Palantir.
SCOOP: Internal ICE material and testimony from an official obtained by 404 Media provides the clearest link yet between the technological infrastructure Palantir is building for ICE and the agency’s activities on the ground.

Inside the app called ELITE—what ICE uses to find neighborhoods to raid.

NEW: An original student debt report at the CFPB exposed loan servicers declining to answer consumer complaints + two private equity firms doing college tuition price-fixing + a giant default crisis.

Trump-CFPB didn't like the report. So they tried to erase it.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said the initial report was not in the scope of what is required by federal law and called the author “disgruntled” and “incompetent.”

I know people on Bsky know this but I hope it filters out: The feds are OCCUPYING the Twin Cities. This is a blockade, a siege. They are shutting down economic and civic activity. They are conducting "papers please" stops. They are criminalizing being a bystander/witness.

You could be next.

Think you have to retire the phrase “immigration crackdown” when every major violent spectacle — at least those the news is choosing to highlight — involve US citizens screaming “Check my ID!”
As the Trump administration escalates its immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, arrests and aggressive tactics by ICE and the Border Patrol, many seen on viral videos, have intensified the frustration and fear among residents, business owners and immigrant workers. trib.al/zVm2mk5

no. fuck no. what the fuck are you saying. they’re shooting people in the face. they’re going door to door. they need to be arrested not given even more funding. get the fuck out of here with “restrictions”
.@PabloReports: Would you vote for any funding increases for ICE?

Warren: Not without more restrictions. This is an agency that is out of control. If we don’t get some restrictions in place, they’re going to put more American citizens at risk.

After federal troops forced a fugitive slave named Anthony Burns back into slavery in the 1850s, one Bostonian wrote, “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.” The abuse of power radicalizes people. We are seeing that now.

It's very simple: if you're currently in a position of power with aspirations to be president, but you're unwilling (or, in this case, actively fighting against) to do something to make things a bit more equitable, then you can fuck right off.
Governor Gavin Newsom speaks out against a proposed initiative to tax California billionaires: “This will be defeated — there’s no question in my mind... I’ll do what I have to do to protect the state."
