Instead he's conveniently utilising Mandelson as a lightning rod and scapegoat for the massive institutional corruption that enabled him. Just a bad apple, folks! Nothing to see here! Don't look at how rotten the barrel is!
If Starmer is serious (he's not, ofc) he'd introduce strict new anti-lobbying laws, bring in firewalls against revolving doors, and undertake a deep, unflinching investigation into financial and influence ties in politics, with criminal sanctions.

It's rare to see how lobbyists operate. But the Epstein-Mandelson correspondence shows us what happens all the time: plutocrats and government ministers conspiring against the public interest. This is why all lobbying should be in the public domain, but despite Labour and Con promises, it's not. 🧵

At this point the focus on Andrew Windsor by the UK media can only be read as a distraction from the FT's scoop about Mandelson and the very serious corruption allegations.
This ought to have been the main UK news story from the DoJ’s latest Jeffrey Epstein data dump.

Peter Mandelson told Epstein he was “trying hard” to change government policy on bankers’ bonuses at his request, months after Epstein paid thousands of pounds to the then Business Secretary’s husband.

Sky News on Renee Nicole Good murder: "There are deeply conflicting accounts of what happened."

REALLY? Gonna both-sides this? One "account" can be seen on video and is confirmed by a dozen eye-witnesses. The other is a social media post by history's most notorious pathological liar.

Grow a spine.

To all those saying "but if our government spoke out, there might be consequences", please remember that not speaking out also has consequences. The history of appeasement is not a reassuring one.

Good interview in the paper, this. I think Sadiq is right: London 'needs' to be less successful than it is for a bunch of political arguments here in the UK to work, hence the fictions being invented about it:
Populists attack London because it is ‘progressive and successful’, says Sadiq Khan
Rightwing attacks on one of the world’s most visited cities at odds with reality, says mayor

What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works.

Israel continues to level Gaza in full view of the whole world, killing displaced civilians as it ethnically-cleansing Palestinian land.

This genocide is being built in Britain. Stop arming Israel now.

I don’t want to be too shrill about this but I think the BBC, ITV and Sky have disgraced themselves in their coverage of the anti-refugee protests. A massive failure of judgement. But now we know the next time a progressive protest “isn’t news” that it’s nothing to do with numbers
