Decided I was too tired to pedal all the way in today so I took the car and then spent the next hour plus regretting my decision. Gotta remember that riding to the subway station is an option.

Saw a GCN video where the hosts talked about cycling products they can’t believe they used to use, and they mentioned quick releases. That jogged a memory of a road race 15 years ago. Someone was a little late on the brakes in a turn and bumped my rear dropout. No one crashed but my QR flipped open.

I think it was from reading @bretdevereaux.bsky.social that I learned that ancient people (at least) believed in their religion because their rituals *work*, and watching my cat knock everything off the shelves and tables in my living room when he thinks it’s feeding time kinda shows why.

what the fuck, man.
Megyn Kelly on alleged war crimes: "I really do kind of not only wanna see them killed in the water, whether they're on the boat or in the water, but I'd really like to see them suffer. I would like Trump and Hegseth to make it last a long time so they lose a limb and bleed out."

I wondered why replies chastised me for calling the boat strikes war crimes, saying I'm helping Trump when I do, as if "war crime" is positive.

Then I remembered some use "war crime" to mean "foreign policy I don't like," rather than "use of military force in violation of the laws of armed combat."

Language doesn’t work this way, people don’t necessarily, and generally don’t, take the logic you can construct from their words as ironbound. The point of saying “war crimes” is that it’s an illegal and immoral use of military force and I am very fine with people saying it that way.
one of the problems I have with Democrats (and other critics) labeling these "war crimes" is that it accepts the underlying claim that the people being murdered are enemy combatants. They're not! it's just murder!
Fox News' Joey Jones justifies the US military killing survivors after an initial boat strike: "An enemy combatant does not have to have a gun to be a danger or a threat... if you leave anybody alive, they can signal and let others know what’s happening and they can also retaliate through radio."

It doesn't remotely accept that underlying claim, it simply accepts that we have declared that this is a war, & we are attacking people as if it is a war. We are unaccustomed(!) to our government making war on civilian citizens of a nation at peace(!), & we do not have a special vocabulary for it.

if they complained about something real it might actually have hurt amazon. so they didn't do that. things like the power draw. or, like, any of the things that AI is actually used for that are bad. water is a perfect complaint for making your opposition waste their time on bullshit

fuck it, for the people in the back:

the jeff bezos owned washington post is the outlet responsible for making sure the primary complaint about AI was water. this may have been in part because jeff knew it was bullshit, so when amzn gets blowback they can easily prove their water footprint is small
not to be conspiratorial but the outlet that successfully pushed this line and made it the primary complaint was wapo

Maybe it’s just a short person thing but I just spent a solid 2 hours re-cabling an old CAAD10 to sell it because routing cables at the front is such a bear. Sorry not sorry but I don’t miss cables at all.

Regarding the latter, one could argue there is a level of seniority below which it is not reasonable to expect service members to exercise their own judgement about that.

But the former—*everyone* knows that kind of order is illegal and must be refused. This is basic-training-level stuff.
Refusing to follow a “kill the survivors of the previous strike who are clearly hors de combat” order SHOULD BE significantly more clear-cut than refusing one due to “this entire operation is unlawful because citing inherent Article II authority is insufficient.”

There must be accountability.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

Hegseth is a cold-blooded murderer. There's no way to dress it up. He's a criminal. And his was precisely the kind of illegal order that those Dem members of Congress urged the military not to follow. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...
Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.

Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:

-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout
