I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

A male agent taunted Suazo in halting Spanish, calling him “poco hombre” for hiding and for putting his girlfriend at risk. “And just like mocking, you know, and singing, like in a horror movie, saying, ‘Jeffrey, come out, we’re gonna get you one way or another.’

In case you’re wondering how St Paul Police could ever treat their own residents like they did yesterday look at this unhinged statement from who the officers elect as their leaders.

We need people willing to make public comments directly to the SPPD Eastern District in response to what happened yesterday.

We will pack their community meeting at 722 Payne Ave on December 16th at 6pm. If you can't make it then, there's an additional time at 9am.

Press are welcome to attend.

Here's my question, though. Is mayor-elect Kaohly Her just not taking questions about this? Or are journalists not asking her for comment? I have seen zero mention of her in the coverage.
Maybe it's a good thing he lost lmao
Carter said he stood by the city's police department, and Police Chief Axel Henry maintained his department did not violate the city’s separation ordinance.

Carter said Henry has begun a full review of the use of force during Tuesday’s response.

From the MN Society for Professional Journalists: St. Paul police shot three photojournalists (MPR, Reuters, Sahan Journal) with "less lethal" munitions during an ICE operation yesterday. One had to go to the hospital. They say they were specifically targeted by St. Paul police.

Photos from St. Paul today captured by MPR photojournalist Kerem Yücel. He filed them even after being hospitalized after being injured by a less lethal munition.

Tim Kaine on backlash he's getting: "I got the first good night's sleep last night that I've gotten since Oct 1, b/c I wasn't worried about being able to look Capitol Police in the eye when I walked in, or what a furloughed fed worker would say to me at church, or what somebody would say about SNAP"

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".

But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

He believes pain is leverage.

That is who Trump is and who he has always been.

And Washington Republicans are right there with him.

A few more thoughts from last night’s vote.

First, let’s stop pretending Trump cares one bit about the economic pressure regular Americans are under.

He treats hardship as something to exploit.
November 10, 2025 at 3:37 PM
He can starve us if he wants. He knows that now. It won't hurt him. He'll get whatever he wants. SNAP is so much money he could steal. We will bargain away anything for a vague promise of getting it back.

But we won't. He'll just keep starving us. It works so well. He won't stop. Why would he stop?
Trump on SNAP: It really puts the country in jeopardy. People who are able bodied who can do their job—they leave their job because they figure they can pick this up because it’s easier—that’s not the purpose of it

It’s wild to suggest this is a circular firing squad or something when it’s millions of citizen Democrats who hate it versus 47 elected Democrats who conspired to surrender for nothing.

We’re not fighting “each other,” we’re fighting you. There’s only a few dozen of you, but you hold all the power.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

Shaheen: "I think we can get a bipartisan bill out of the Senate that will address this [healthcare] issue. And if not, we know that the voters are going to know who's on their side and who's going to hold them accountable."

So Trump has learmed that if he starves people, he can get whatever he wants, and Democrats think SNAP funding is now safe???
November 10, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Democrats think the stakes are low and individual: their base could give up on them in favor of another candidate.

They are too insulated to realize the stakes are collective and irreversibly high.

If their base gives up, it will be on the very concept of Congress and the law.
