LLMs give people with delusional belief systems a way to organise those beliefs. The model fills in gaps, supplies connective tissue, and wraps the madness in formal language.
It doesn't make the claims more credible to us, it just tidies them up.

FORTUNATELY, for everyone we have a fun way to tell your House rep that you think Bobby Jr is a quack and has to go…

For $3 we will hand deliver (by a man in a duck costume) a rubber ducky with a message to “impeach the quack” to your rep!

QUACK-O-GRAMS!

It's frustrating being like, the only generation that got taught internet research in school, and getting met with skepticism when I say I don't use ChatGPT to look shit up. I wasn't even allowed to use wikipedia as a source because "anyone can edit it", why am I trusting a robot to not do the same?
It really does feel like a lot of formerly reasonable people have been infected by some sort of terrifying brain parasite when it comes to unthinking and total acceptance of using AI tools
Absolute worst part, imo, is the pressure from school administrators to "welcome our new overlords" by adopting AI. It's also happening in elite universities, to my utter bafflement & horror. Anyone who calls bullshit on AI is treated as if only ignorance could explain their perspective.

Just to give the TL;DR on this one:

*The* main purpose of the EO is to move funding priorities and decisions away from experts and career professionals over to political appointees. With the ultimate power held by Vought / OMB.

I am already developing anaphylactic reactions to the phrase “gold-standard science”. And it’s only May of the first year of this damned administration.
RFK Jr. says he met with Argentina’s president Javier Milei and it sounds like they want to make a fascist alternative to the World Health Organization.

The president has covered the Oval Office in gold, is planning a massive military parade for his birthday, and is now accepting $400,000,000 luxury planes from foreign powers as personal presents.

What the fuck are we doing here?

This!
I've had to "do my own research" about one aspect of food and drug safety that the government doesn't control - gluten content - for 11 years. And let me tell you, it sucks. It's a constant drain on time and energy, and a constant anxiety. This is not a world the rest of you want to live in.
I could be wrong about this but I really think most Americans do not want to be forced to “do their own research” about food & drug & product safety and would rather that the government agencies that have been sorting that all out for them for decades not be obliterated in the name of “efficiency.”

To put things in context: Three weeks ago, it felt like every institution was folding. Like nobody was standing up except the American people, like we were calling our representatives and nothing was happening.

Congress is legitimately so powerful and yet every one of them is so used to the idea that the President runs them that they don’t know how to seize or use any of that power themselves. Gotta restore the power of Article 1 to slap the shit out of this executive branch my god
Honestly, the first member of Congress in either chamber who just pretends the tariffs don’t exist because they never voted on them has the power to make themselves frontrunner for the *ongoing* presidency

I fear some of you are still not quite understanding that the purpose of DOGE is not actually to make the federal government more efficient, it's to privatize what they can make money off of and then dismantle the rest.

one of the things COVID kinda taught me was that a lot of my fellow americans have a sort of switch in their brain where they can be like “hmm thinking about this makes me uncomfortable so *bloop* it doesn’t exist!” and i think that’s how most people are dealing with the extremely overt nazi stuff.

With both RFK Jr and Gabbard confirmed, two people who rose to prominence spreading conspiracy theories about public health and national intelligence will now run the U.S. government agencies in charge of those areas. For someone studying these conspiracy theories for a decade... this is nauseating.

Interpretation for the non-scientists: When faculty get NIH grants, the University gets some extra cash to make sure the research is supported. NIH just cut that $$ by a LOT. That means Unis are less likely to support research. Most research in the US is done at Unis, so... it's bad 🧪
