just want to be clear that if Trump wins, the only accurate answer to "why did Harris lose?" will not be found in a thousand thinkpieces on "if only she'd announced more policy".

the accurate answer will be "cos American politics and American society are irredeemable fucked".

Among white people, the correlation between racial resentment and their voting decision is much, much stronger than between educational attainment and political alignment.

In fact, if you control for racial resentment, education polarization basically disappears.

The tribune of the poor, the downtrodden? Studies clearly indicate that Trump’s most ardent supporters, especially in poorer areas, are, by local standards, quite wealthy / financially stable. Their “economic anxiety” is mostly downstream from anxieties over racial and cultural status.

By turning away Afghan refugees, many of whom have worked directly with the United States before the Taliban took over, this is what Trump is condemning tens of thousands of innocent people to: a regime where religious leaders can decide when you can use the Internet or call your business partners.
“100% of our communication is done through mobile phones,” farmer Iqbal Momand says. “When the blackout happened, everything came to a standstill. We could not contact the markets. Our harvested crops could not be transported.”
The Taliban's Internet Blackouts Are Devastating Afghan Farmers
When the Afghan government shut down all communication channels for two days due to political reasons, farmers were unable to contact buyers and transporters, resulting in significant losses.

for the record, it is extremely fucked up how much we reasonably fear reprisals against civilian populations if anyone harms the armies of criminals occupying our cities

It's actively harmful

Two of the three Denver police officers fired for joking about killing immigrants have been given law enforcement jobs in smaller Colorado towns.

One of them, an immigrant himself, suggested they “go to the migrant hotel on 6th and Federal and shoot them there lol plenty of targets in there."

It's obvious they were waiting for the shooting and would welcome any number of shooters and murders because they support both murder and anything to justify more fascism.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

Reuters reached out to everyone that Trump or his subordinates singled out publicly for retribution, and reviewed hundreds of official orders, directives and public records. The result: the most comprehensive accounting yet of his campaign of payback.

Let's not confuse the people giving the stupid orders with the people who have to deal with following them, who are often good and decent people.

National Guard aren’t ICE or Border Patrol. They didn’t sign up looking to harass and repress people. They’re volunteers, part time, in case of emergency. They didn’t ask for this.

West Virginia National Guard shouldn’t have been deployed in Washington DC.

Victims of the shooter and the president.

Experts say it’s highly unusual for the White House to tell agents to give up custody of potential evidence in an investigation, as it did with the Tates.

“I’ve never heard of anything like that in my 30 years working,” an ex-DHS official said.

Federal authorities were chided for seizing electronic devices from Tate and his brother, and told to return them, records and interviews show. Experts said the intervention was highly inappropriate.

Reporters who fact-check Trump to his face are not “stupid”, they are not “piggies”, and they are not “ugly”. They are doing their jobs, and doing it under pressure most of us will never experience.

We should be grateful for their service. I appreciate their courage now more than ever.

I get it but actually insurance is not like anything else we ever buy. It’s like if we paid the grocery store regularly but sometimes went three years without eating anything but a salad every six months, and then got in a car accident and needed five years worth of celery in an hour.
Imagine paying a large monthly fee to shop at a supermarket, then paying again for the actual groceries, then getting an extra charge months later because one ingredient in an item you bought came from a farmer associated with a different store.

This post is about healthcare.

This young man, this highly damaged man,. Who killed these guards is 29. In 2018, he was 22. If Pompei hadn't resuscitated this evil program, he would never have killed children, women, and families for the US govt and, maybe, he wouldn't have been destroyed enough to murder these poor kids.
