In Discworld, cities thrive because they welcome dwarfs, trolls, vampires, and humans alike. Ankh-Morpork works because everyone belongs. Funny how fiction can seem more humane than policy sometimes.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Can everyone in the UK get their heads around the fact that 'pressing charges' is a US thing and has no basis in UK law? The CPS decide whether to prosecute or not. They might consult you but ultimately it's out of your hands.

if I ever go properly "screaming about nothing in particular in the street" mad it will be due to having spent too much time having read about the opinions of men who have absolutely never cared about women's rights for one moment in their lives but decided to pretend just for the sake of racism

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

Labour does not have to "fight for the right-wing". Take the "for" out of that sentence: that's what you're FOR, you poll-obsessed, focus-grouped, question-asking, legitimate-concern-addressing, bedwetting fucking airbags. Give voters a choice: Ladybird Britain, or Redistribution of Wealth.

Historian here. Witnessing so many gullible people vote for their own downfall is upsetting. It means humans, even in an age with the total sum of recorded knowledge at their fingertips, will not learn from the past and just repeat the mistakes we've made time and time before.
