Heaven forbid a woman has a hobby
KMBC: "A woman tried to set a fire at a South Kansas City warehouse that had been rumored as a possible ICE detention center. Earlier today, the company that owns the property confirmed it is no longer moving forward with a sale to the U.S. government."

he rented an airplane and made me fly it. I was terrified and fell in love with him immediately
This is an unapologetically sappy feel-good subject (at least, I guess, for people in a happy relationship”). So, to prepare for Valentine’s Day, what did you and your partner do for a first date?

My wife and I went to tea at Huntington Gardens and walked around.
On our first date, my spouse and I spent like an hour talking about footnotes.

This is one of the many reasons that delivering on universal preschool in Multnomah County is so important! Please support it, regardless what your tax-hating buddies are telling you! @friendsofpfa.bsky.social @shannonsingleton.bsky.social

Release the Owendoff files!
Received just now:

"It appears that fulfilling this request would only benefit you, not the wider public. Claiming that Dan Ryan has been using his personal cell phone "to avoid scrutiny and likely skirt the City's lobbying laws" appears to be your own opinion and not that of the wider public."

I have so much to say about this but none of it has anything to do with aviation. heh
Sorry for being nosy but I’m in a pretty quiet airport. a woman sat down next to a much older pilot here in the food court and started very obviously flirting with him but he absolutely cannot stop listing off aviation facts to her regardless of whatever question she asks him

we should think of means-testing like we do high tax rates. When you have very high tax rates, people or companies will spend lots of money to avoid or evade them. Similarly complex means-tests require large amounts of money to enforce.
"And this labyrinth of eligibility rules doesn’t just fail the intended beneficiaries – the administrative complexity they create presents an enormous opportunity for profit by government contractors."

Means-testing is not efficiency. It is grift. lpeproject.org/blog/the-mea...
The Means-Testing Industrial Complex
As Republicans tightened work requirements and eligibility rules for Medicaid and SNAP last year, Equifax’s CEO openly celebrated the profits to be made from administering this deprivation.

Who takes notes and does the dishes for the revolution is a political matter. Look around you at your organizing meetings. If women are always the ones keeping minutes, assign a man. If women are always volunteering to get shit going, assign some men.
I think @sarahjeong.bsky.social said it's because they devalue women's labor and a LOT of this Scary Logistics stuff comes from people who don't understand that basically all of the civic life they enjoy is created with the help of free labor, largely by women.

Make no mistake, we are now seeing white American citizens being murdered by law enforcement because we never truly addressed the way our law enforcement treats Black Americans.

If we do not help each other, it’s only a matter of time before we all lose.

Our liberation is tied together.

big point of contention in horticulture, too. Plant patents are bullshit
They hate it being talked about because it undermines the Big Lie that the rise in inequality was due to the "free market." There is nothing free market about government-granted patent and copyright monopolies. But you aren't even allowed to say that in major media outlets.
After seeing this question raised constantly, I'm starting to feel like changing policies towards patents & copyrights is viewed by traditional powers as the thermonuclear weapon of trade tools, things which exist but must not be used.

it ain’t about teaching a man to fish. you gotta just give him the goddamn fish
The art of any propagandist and agitator consists in his ability to find the best means of influencing any given audience, by presenting a definite truth, in such a way as to make it most convincing, most easy to digest, most graphic, and most strongly impressive.

billionaires control our country. the only stance with an answer to that problem is the socialist one. democrats have repeatedly said they will bring prices down without taxing the rich. they will fix healthcare without making it universal. these are at best fantasies, at worst lies.

Can't stress enough how much AI will never replace all jobs in the world

People have this silly idea of most work being stuff like factories & warehouses, in reality most work has always been care work; childcare, Doctors, nurses, service workers, social workers etc

quiet sexism hides this fact

my DSA chapter is currently doing exactly this!
If you are:
-a leftist
-who does not like the DNC
-and lives in a red district
-that is rural or suburban

I encourage you to check out your local Dems and maybe get involved. Red districts are often ignored by national Dems; you may have more influence to push left locally than you think.

In addition to shaping local politics that affects day-to-day life whether on a school/library board or board of supervisors or safety committe or what have you, local politics can also be used as a springboard to regional and state, potentially picking up seats in state houses.

Happy to see this aspect of water pollution covered in the NYT, and appreciate @mikegrunwald.bsky.social making the point that factory farms should be regulated like other polluting industries. It's not that wild to say so, even a shill like Mike is agrees! (kidding) www.nytimes.com/2026/01/20/o...

last time this Eucalyptus perriniana fell over a few years ago, it was small enough that we could push it back upright, stake it, and it was actually ok! But it lacks an anchoring root to the east/northeast, where it really needs one. So i'm giving up. And in its stead I will plant.... nothing! ha

yea I think billionaires’ brains are fucked

but I do think they legit still think A.i. could replace a huge swath of the working class

do you know what capitalism does to the working class when it isn’t dependent on us?

I’ll give you a hint. it’s genocide.

THAT is why you oppose A.i.
