The most shameful language point about school kids in the U.K. is not the number who speak English as a second language, but the number who don’t speak any language other than English.

Even more, the number of adults who don’t.

Innocent people end up in our criminal courts.

Completely, terrifyingly innocent.

And all that stands between them and losing everything is a fair trial.

Politicians would do well to remember this when they tell us that justice is all about processing “criminals” swiftly.

Once upon a time the Labour Party believed it should develop new progressive ideas and policies that would enthuse and inspire the public into the belief that a better world is possible even if if needs some effort now to achieve it.

I came to this country as a child refugee. No English, no certainty, no idea what my life could become. Britain gave me refuge.

Not on a timer, not with conditions attached, but with a chance to grow roots.

📣 The suspension of family reunion could forcibly separate families for years.

In the past year, 92% of family reunion visas were for women and children.

This cruel move will leave people without any formalised safe routes to reunite with their loved ones.

This week, two children died in the Channel.

Ten days earlier the ex-Home Secretary suspended refugee family reunions. That means children have no safe way to reach refugee parents.

It's hard to see how this will lead to anything other than more children being killed.

Tax aside, this is objectively a very sad end to Rayner’s political career: a teenage single mum from a deprived family who went onto be deputy prime minister. The right wing press detested her for not knowing her place. Their glee at her downfall will be palpable in tomorrow’s front pages.

I have known no peace since I went around The Netherlands by train, where the fare from Station A to Station B is exactly the same price any time of day whether you need to travelling right now or are booking ahead months from now. And you can bloop it all on contactless. Imagine. IMAGINE!

Very important letter circulating about the complete neglect of primary education in the current English Curriculum Review process. Like very many other academics and teachers, I have serious concerns about the way this review is playing out.

Call for a separate primary curriculum and assessment review Organizations and individuals associated with the Primary Umbrella Group (PUG), with an interest and expertise in young children’s education have written to the Chair of the Curriculum and Assessment Review expressing our concern at its suggestion that the current curriculum and assessment arrangements are working well in primary settings and do not require significant change. Our letter arguing that the reverse is true can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eZFXZ8Yz Please read and circulate widely. We are awaiting a reply from the Chair and the Secretary of State and hope it will be positive

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?
