Campaigning collaboratively, locally and nationally, to transform asylum in the UK.

When irresponsible politicians try to divide our communities, what do we do? We speak up, we stand together, we stay strong.

We are, and always will be, an island of solidarity, not of strangers.

It costs:
💰 £144.98 a night to house someone seeking sanctuary in a run-down repurposed hotel
💰 £132 a night to ship them to an isolated, traumatising military camp
OR
💰 £23.25 a night to let them live in an ordinary, safe, community home

Quick New Year's resolution for the Government:
Lift 👏 The 👏 Ban 👏
Banning people from work has never made sense. Let's make 2026 the last year anyone is banned from using their skills.
January 1, 2026 at 2:02 PM
2025 hasn't been an easy year for anyone who cares about refugee and migrant rights.
But when we look back at the amazing things our incredible community of campaigners have done together, we're full of hope for a better year to come.
Together, we can build a better world.

What do you think our economy could do with an extra £1.6bn?

Let's make 2026 the year we finally #LiftTheBan and let people work - for people seeking safety, for the communities that could benefit from their skills, and for our economy.

One of the most important, and beautifully written, pieces we've read this year.

In her own words, care worker and refugee Riffat explains everything she gives to the UK - and how it feels to have the country she's given so much to turn its back on her.

Every family should be able to celebrate together. But if we don't stop them, planned migration rules could force some refugee families apart forever.
If you're celebrating Christmas with your loved ones today, take 30 seconds now to defend family reunion:

Anticipating tough conversations over the Christmas dinner table?
Coming together with people we care about over a meal can be the perfect opportunity to shift perspectives on asylum & migration issues.
Use City of Sanctuary's amazing guid to approach these conversations with courage & kindness.

Disappointing to see the Home Secretary refuse to have a cuppa with constituents who wrote to remind her of the proud Brummie welcome that's conspicuously missing from her policies.
The Government must stop ignoring those of us who choose community over hostility

What👏a👏year👏
We're celebrating the incredible first year of the West Midlands Lift The Ban group.
In a year marked by rising hostility nationally, read about how they've showcased joy, community, and a vision of a better asylum system for all of us:

Imagine rebuilding your whole life in 28 days. Finding a home, getting a job, setting up a bank account.
Sounds impossible, right? But that's what the Government expects from newly-recognised refugees.
December 21, 2025 at 1:01 PM
Reminder: People are dying in Home Office care, and our Government doesn't even report the numbers.

We should not have to fight to learn about these tragedies.

The lives of people seeking sanctuary matter. We will not allow their deaths to be ignored.

Plans to make people wait decades for settlement are terrifying, dangerous - and preventable.

We don't have to let hostility win. One simple thing you can do right now is support this petition, set up by refugees who are determined to fight these plans:

Violence, terror and death. That's the reality facing far too many people on the France/UK border.

The UK needs to understand its role in funding this violence - so we can stop it.

We've got a very simple message this International Migrants Day.
Migration is a basic part of the human experience, and all of our lives would be worse without it.

This #InternationalMigrantsDay, newcomers to the UK are living under threat of dangerous rule changes that could force them to wait decades to settle safely.

If you believe in welcome, take a moment to sign the petition against the plans:

Lift 👏 The 👏 Ban 👏

Banning people from work is so absurd, even this frog knows it doesn't make sense.

Fantastic to see people - and frogs - mobilising in the Home Secretary's constituency to demand an end to cruel extended settlement plans, and equal work & housing rights for migrants.
