how about we make rich people pay taxes and use the proceeds to nationalize the healthcare system
“There’s a public health imperative to quickly expand the adoption of autonomous vehicles.”

Would the author say the same about building bike lanes? Installing automatic traffic cameras? Requiring Intelligent Speed Assist?

All of those are proven to save lives — and at a fraction of AVs' cost.

The bad news:
#H3N2 is new flu strain, "generally thought to cause more illness & be worse for older adults than other strains".

* This, on top of 5+ years of #COVID reinfections, a virus known to dysregulate the immune system.

The good news:
It's PREVENTABLE with an #N95 mask & #CleanAir.
1/ H3N2 that’s circulated worldwide this year “acquired 7 new mutations over the summer,” Antonia Ho, of Scotland’s U of Glasgow, said.

That “means the virus is quite different to the H3N2 strain included in this year’s vaccine,” she said.

Warnings rise for U.S. as severe flu strain causes outbreaks in Canada, U.K.
A flu strain that emerged over the summer is causing "unprecedented" outbreaks in Japan, as well as in Canada and the U.K. The CDC hasn't provided insights on flu in the U.S. in nearly two months.

throughout this decade-long war of attrition against sesta, fosta, osa, etc. moral panic over sex work has been manufactured as cover for risk-management, more or less, for investment firms. the issue is ideological, but not in the obvious way; an open internet can't be totally financialized
The truth is, way too many journalists & content creators sat there and said nothing when SESTA-FOSTA passed, when OSA passed, when OF nearly lost porn due to paypros, even during this summer’s Collective Shout situation. A slow apocalypse for the free and open internet has been unfolding for years

I cannot express how important it is for anyone going through a secured checkpoint like TSA to make sure thier phone is in BFU (Before First Unlock) mode. To enter this state: reboot your phone and don't unlock it.

In BFU mode all data is encrypted and your phone requires a passcode to unlock.
I was just asked for my phone (to swipe the outside for whatever) for the 1st time during a “random” TSA extra screening for a domestic flight - i told them i didn’t consent to a search of the phone, made sure there were no notifications visible & it was locked and didn’t let it out of my sight…

In somewhat good news, today the state department website has changed the answer to this question to defer to ICAO policy. Sources still tell me that there is some appetite for invalidation/reversion of passports issued under the injunction, but this message will be welcome to many trans people.

If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.

Always remember that Tarrio was an informant for the feds and local law enforcement too. Calling him a "prolific" informer, his own lawyer said in court that Tarrio's information led to the prosecution of 13 people on federal charges.

I hope everyone who still thinks a deal can be done with Rs in Congress wakes up one of these days. Look at this. Do you think Trump is gonna allow ANY tax money to go to anything other than what he personally deems acceptable? Doesn't matter what Mike or anyone says. Trump knows it's HIS money
NEW: The Trump admin told states it must immediately "undo" the work to provide full food stamp benefits, or face penalties. The feds sent this in a late-night memo, only adding to the chaos and confusion around SNAP. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/b...

tbh i think that the majority of americans are consciously neutral and unconcerned, but subconsciously negative and repulsed.

i also think that having trans people in their lives shifts this dramatically toward the positive very quickly, and the biggest problem is that we’re abstract to most.
this is also my read on the electorate

for instance I think it's likely that, as much as it is bullshit transphobia cooked up by bigots, the majority of people in this country don't want trans kids to play sports

but are they going to condition their vote on it? no, they don't care that much
The majority of US voters, so far as I can tell, flatly do not care about trans people one way or another. They aren't necessarily especially friendly to them, but they clearly find the notion that they're supposed to obsess over them distinctly offputting. (Despite major efforts by the right!)

If a Democrat speaks in the woods and there's no focus group around to hear them to do they still underperform the generic ballot
the democratic party’s basic problem is it has almost no control over how its message reaches the ears of voters, especially outside of presidential election years. but rather than devote serious time, attention and cash to that problem its consultants and pundits want to fight factional battles
