If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

donating food to your local pantry is GREAT and helpful, but money is best imo because we work with vendors/places who are able to give us bulk food and better prices than the average grocery store. if you're debating between giving a pantry canned goods or $20? definitely $20

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

We gain nothing by exaggerating or lying about reality of the world to ourselves.

Misinformation scares people, and makes it hard for people to prepare and fight back. That's exactly why fascists rely on disinformation and lies so much. We don't need to.

"Americans are reading less" is in the news again, and I'm thinking about the death of cheap mass market paperbacks.

I have books I bought in the 80s with order forms in the back for a huge range of titles: history, politics, economics, lit. All for a dollar or two (under $10 in today's money.)

Ooh, a second mildly famous person has blocked me, how exciting!

It was for pointing out that mocking Trump-ites via homophobic and transphobic jokes is perhaps just a tiny bit not good.

(The previous time was someone who pretty much blocked me for agreeing with her. Go figure.)

Got the Covid shot and the flu shot today. The process was surprisingly easy--it took maybe 15 minutes as a walk-in at a supermarket pharmacy. (Of course the Covid shot would have been much harder to get if my state hadn't said "Screw RFK Jr, anyone who wants one can get one.")

If the right *truly* believed Charlie Kirk was a defender of free speech and someone who was fine with dissenting opinions, they wouldn't be engaged in a massive campaign to punish anyone who didn't "mourn him properly."

They clearly know all of that is bullshit. Only the media was conned.
