Putin: ‘Russia is ready to keep fighting until the last Ukrainian dies.’

Western politicians & press: ‘Peace talks have stalled…’

Russia has zero interest in peace. Calling Kremlin demands for Ukrainian surrender ‘peace talks’ is just another way of spreading their propaganda.

Time, after time, after time, Corbyn has defended, excused, or apologised for Russia’s hostile foreign policy positions, and the evidence for that is stark & overwhelming.

Yet his supporters continue to present the lie that he has always stood on the right side of history.

While today he presents himself as the defender of Palestinians under Israeli bombardment, the Russian intervention in Syria was supported by Labour’s former leader Jeremy Corbyn, and his director of communications Seamus Milne.

This is why Syrians continue to despise him.

On this day 10 years ago, Russia entered the Syrian civil war on behalf of the Assad regime, devastating infrastructure, displacing millions and murdering thousands of Syrian civilians.

Despite all of these widespread crimes, Moscow and Assad would go on to lose.

I'm glad Kimmel is coming back.

However, "free speech" where you can reverse government-coerced corporate censorship but only if your supporters make stock price influencing noise would be like a healthcare system in which you need a GoFundMe to go viral to afford treatment.

... wait.

It just straightforwardly *insane* how much political chatter in the United Kingdom is about the next general election, an event that is a long way in the future, and how basically none of it is about 'uh, this policy agenda doesn't look adequate to the scale of the inherited problem'.

A desperate desire to live forever in the Vinnick vs Santos debate episode of The West Wing, and an unshakeable, utterly baseless belief that if the centre-left throws enough progressive principles under the bus a civil, moderate, responsible centre-right will emerge to engage with.
The problem with the Ezra Klein view of the world is it's based on the existence of a centre-right and centre-left willing to find common ground. Authoritarians aren't interested in common ground, just power.

This is a time commitment. A worthy investment, though.
While the focus is on the UK, the message is applicable elsewhere too. Time to wake up and get busy.
Really some major media organisation should attempt a consciousness-raising exercise trying to explain to the British public and its godforsaken government just exactly how they are on Russia’s front line… Oh yes right thank you.

A free hint for anyone wanting to use historical events as metaphors: double-check that the historical event does actually conjure up the images you are looking for before choosing them (which, I mean, might be the case here, but you never know 🙃)

Russia attacks Poland deliberately, the Trump response…”It could’ve been a mistake.”
Any European state basing its defense plans on the US defending it from a Russian attack is living in a fantasy world and deliberately exposing its citizens to great risk.

The time for the West to start arming democratic Ukraine to the teeth and imposing crippling sanctions on fascist Russia was... over three years ago.

Putin has been given time to switch his economy to a war footing.

Stopping him now will be much more costly - and risky.
The main lesson from last night for Poland (indeed all NATO in CEE) should be that their defense starts in Ukraine.

Imagine the results if Russians could launch a massive UAV attack on Poland from just over the border in Ukraine?

Up to 20 drones. That's not one random drone. Must be a planned action to test NATO. My bet is that NATO will not hit Russia back. Then Russia will escalate even more. Textbook case of what appeasement leads to.
They say "up to 20" (to translate the Polish / Ukrainian phrase meaning "from 11 to 20").

The math of the air war in Ukraine is simple. Yes, air defenses are needed but there will never be enough Patriots etc. The only way to stop Putin from bombarding Ukrainian cities is by helping Kyiv strike deep inside Russia, against the Russian defense-industrial base, air and missile installations

Ukraine is not being prepared as it should in air defense, and instead of sucking up to Trump, the Europeans should be far more proactive. They even have cards to play, if they had self respect. How about saying Europe will only buy US weapons if the US sells Ukraine Patriots?
