Generally it's a good idea to *not* give corporations subscription money to destroy the gaming ecosystem and lay off thousands. Plus, they will always want more and give you less. It's a zero-sum game and you will always lose.

Ben is right, if you been let go like a lot of us it’s not because of you or what you think you did or didn’t do it’s always down to people outside of the work dealing with spreadsheets and zero clue of the impact of there choices only hoping numbers going up.

Todays news is just horrendous. Words can’t describe. I’m in the midst of doing some freelance, packing to move back home, and wondering if I’ll ever see the inside of a game studio again. The idea of having a career again feels more and more like a fairly tale each day

For anyone wondering what's happening with Better Questing mod dev and where I've been, some life things blew up in the worst ways in late March and I'm only now getting back on my feet. Eventually I'll get back to posting regular dev updates but for now life takes priority.

Oh my god, Copilot is allowed to create and fix issues on Microsoft github repos and it goes exactly as you'd have imagined.

Try going into any of these PRs commits to see poor Microsoft engineers try to coerce Copilot into doing literally anything right.

Let's take a look at the reasons why you might get laid off while working on a game, shall we? Your game doesn't do well, which, sure. Harsh, but understandable. Your game is called a success by Microsoft. Microsoft then lays you off. You help make a game as successful as Marvel Rivals. You are then laid off. Your studio gets acquired for over $60 billion dollars. You are then laid off. You endure executive pressure that forces you into making games your studio isn't good at making. It doesn't go well. You are then laid off. Someone decides your portfolio needs to be aligned/reorganised/restructured to become more flexible/agile/versatile under economic/industry conditions. Meanwhile, your CEO might've spent $2 million on vintage cars. You are then laid off.

last week at gdc, snail games debuted an AI-generated trailer for a new ark: survival evolved DLC, a decision that left fans baffled and enraged. now everyone even tangentially involved is claiming they had no say in the matter, and the marketing team allegedly responsible isn't talking
“That [trailer] was done by our marketing department,” lead game designer Matt Kohl told Aftermath. “They took our assets and then ran them through an AI to animate them. That was marketing. Development team did not do that, and there has been no AI use in development of Aquatica.” Asked why Snail Games’ marketing arm decided that an AI-fueled fever dream was right for Aquatica, Kohl replied that he didn’t “have any knowledge on that” and reiterated that marketing called the shots when it came to that trailer in particular, leaving devs in the dark. He went on to note that Snail released a brief gameplay trailer for Aquatica as well and that more will be revealed closer to launch. The ball is now in the court of Snail’s marketing department to explain – or not explain – its rationale, if indeed it was solely responsible for the trailer, as Kohl suggests. Aftermath reached out to Snail with questions specifically for the marketing team on Aquatica but did not receive a response as of this publishing. Aftermath also reached out to Wildcard to ask whether the studio plans to keep a close eye on future marketing efforts from Snail – which is not just Aquatica’s developer, but the ARK series’ publisher – going forward, seeing as all it takes is one screw up like this to send a game’s reputation swirling down the toilet. Wildcard did not reply.
