I understand why these stories exist but it’s important to be clear that he’s not “saving” 16 billion, he’s choosing, personally, without oversight, to wipe out 16 billion dollars of government services to veterans and the disabled and food safety etc etc

USDA has announced this new bird flu spillover, but it hasn't posted the sequence & metadata. Researchers need that to determine around how long this went unnoticed -- and therefore uncontrolled.
It appears that we have a second, unique spillover of the bird flu into cattle in Nevada. The first spillover from wild birds into cows was in Texas, in late '23 or early last yr. Not good!

I'm waiting for verification from USDA.

“If the Trump administration and Musk’s operation unilaterally gut NOAA, this would be an illegal overreach of presidential authority that will be swiftly challenged in the courts."

The U.S. #NationalWeatherService, housed within #NOAA, is a truly world-class meteorological predictive service, perhaps singularly so. It costs only ~$3/yr per taxpayer, & yields ~10:1 return on investment--saving economy 10s-100s of billions, not to mention thousands of lives.
Hearing reports that Musk’s cronies are targeting NOAA — infiltrating key systems and locking out career employees.

NOAA is vital for weather forecasting, scientific research and more. Their critical work saves lives.

My team and I are looking into this and we will not stand for it.

Around 10 years ago I almost died because a road not built with climate change in mind was so wrecked it damaged the bus I was on. I knew that I would eventually write a story about how climate change is wrecking roads, and endangering lives. This is me trying to explain that. Gift lift.

They will be replaced in order to, he says, "ensure that the agency receives scientific advice consistent with its legal obligations to advance our core mission," whatever that means.
