THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

I was banging this drum especially with concern to Disney+ earlier in the year - *especially* when they erased an entire episode about trans solidarity from Moon Girl and then another from Win or Lose - and was repeatedly told I was overreacting.

Reminder that Disney has leaned so hard into outright censorship that they've not only scrubbed plotlines from several projects, they've erased whole characters from their shows and deleted entire finished episodes just to ensure queer characters are never seen.
I'm no longer shocked when the truths come out but my heart still breaks every time. Queer youth are attacked at every turn and they can’t even have the respite of feeling seen by a movie, all so regressive bigots don’t have to feel discomfort for two hours.

Hi. I just have a very basic question.

When one of my fellow citizens has a few too many and posts their deepest, most violent thoughts regarding elected officials on SM, usually someone knocks on their door soon after, puts them in cuffs, and escorts them to jail.

Are there 2 standards?

Quite the lede: "The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, an emblem of fascism and white supremacy inextricably linked to the murder of millions of Jews and that more than 400,000 U.S. troops died fighting against in World War II, as a hate symbol, according to a new policy..."

The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items “potentially divisive.”

Unprincipled and weak. The murder of journalists is perhaps the single most direct violation of the right to freedom of speech. (1/2)
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

I’ll probably have the testimony of the CBP deputy incident commander echoing in my brain a long time telling Judge Ellis he knew of zero CBP agents who were facing any discipline for their use of force decisions against members of the public in Chicago.
NEW — An investigation by a group of Chicago-area newsrooms and independent journalists found that federal agents used chemical weapons on protesters at least 49 times across 18 incidents across Chicago and the suburbs since October 1.

It’s funny how all of the free speech scolds, from the editorial staff of The Atlantic to the New York Times, Jonathan Haidt and FIRE to Robbie Soave, are utterly silent on a wave of mass firings over speech — the very thing they claimed to care about. Zero to say about discipline and censorship.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.
