I am thinking of my grandfathers, my great-grandfather, my friends, and my beloved today.

"We sense it was love
you gave your world for; the town squares silent,
awaiting their cenotaphs. What happened next?
War. And after that? War. And now? War. War."

Collective Seapower: NATO’s New Maritime Strategy - Foreign Policy Research Institute
NATO has finally unveiled its new Alliance Maritime Strategy, refreshing a document that had not been publicly updated since 2011. While high-level strategy

I see we're on the content moderation discourse again - luckily the kind of content that counts as filth for a navalist is rarely included

Discovered a new professional niche - explaining European defence to Americans who haven't had to understand it before.

Questions have thus far included "why are the Poles so on it" (you would be too if your country kept getting invaded) and "why are the French like that" (Gallic shrug).

I'm probably too immersed in American domestic politics for my own sanity as a Brit but gosh it's nice to see some good news for once.

(I do also enjoy the Overton window case study that ~90% of Mamdani's policies would be viewed as middling centrist in much of my own continent.)

I guess he should have mustard his courage
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

Americans need to take a good long look at what their military may become if they are not careful, and if the military forget the true nature of their oath.

The scenarios in the piece are abhorrent, but they are all imaginable, and in my view that's the point of reading it.
Hard to imagine a more sinister & dangerous argument, couched in euphemism & high-minded language. "This essay does not argue liberalism will collapse, only that [US] military officers should be intellectually (and spiritually) prepared for alternatives." warontherocks.com/2025/10/the-...

Because I love classification and a good diagram, I wanted to share this excellent look at types of naval mine.
