In reversal, Coast Guard again classifies swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The new order came hours after The Post reported the service would instead classify such symbols “potentially divisive” under guidelines set for release next month.

PayPal has rolled out a new "feature" that prompts you to leave feedback about an artist that you've commissioned via invoice.

Whatever you do, DO NOT fill this out! To quote Admiral Ackbar, "IT'S A TRAP!!!" It is meant to misguide you.

You know what’s really annoying? Getting into the zone at 4:45pm on a Friday. Next thing you know, it’s past quitting time, people are coming in for supper, and I gotta stop. All that momentum, all that productivity, all I can hope for is to get it back Monday.

From a song my friend wrote many years ago:

Odor in the court, says the judge
Let's take a short recess.
Open up the windows, turn on the fan
Let me out of here, yes!
Someone's guilty but it wasn't me
And my temper's runnin' short
I'm a-goin' where I can get some air
There's odor in the court

Last Thanksgiving, two Dallas Police officers knocked on my door, citing a tip from the FBI national threat operations center that I was beating my girlfriend. The incident report confirms this. Today, I obtained a file from the FBI via FOIA that states the FBI has no record of receiving such a tip.

PSA for any Apub authors whose books are in the Anthropic settlement list: Amazon is not participating in the settlement, since they have an investment in Anthropic. When you submit your claim form, you DO NOT have to list Amazon as an add'l rightsholder, & can claim 100% of settlement money.

a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

Duncan, a political newcomer and former prisoner, defeated incumbent Darren Lombard by a wide margin in Saturday's runoff.

Anyway, while I'm wittering about food, here's last week's recipe. Pissaladière, an anchovy & olive topped flat(ish) bread from Provence that I should probably call "rustic" but will instead call "fucking delicious".

MTG initially “won” her congressional seat because her opponent was threatened and doxxed until he dropped his candidacy. The unhinged violent threats of MTG’s MAGA supporters in Georgia enabled her to win the seat by running unopposed. Trump has unleashed violence, and Republicans allowed it.

Excellent bike advice.
Road bikes are the bike equivalent of a little red sports car and a trophy girlfriend. Some people have a legitimate need, but mostly they're a midlife crisis.

And your hips will thank you if you get a low step through, especially as you age. You won't ride a bike that hurts.
My advice is to ignore anyone telling you to get a road bike or anything that requires clip-on shoes or special equipment. Get something that doesn’t strain your back or shoulders and with fenders and a rack so you can get groceries. Prioritize comfort over speed.

I’ve got an idea…
If those 8 Republicans want to sue the DOJ for legally monitoring their phones...claiming “there was no justification”...then prove it.
Authorize the release of everything the DOJ obtained.
Let’s see how “clean” they really are.

At Mason’s soccer practice last night, I hung out with a couple of the Hispanic soccer moms before the scrimmage started (I stand behind the goal and chase down shots that go over or around). I don’t know much Spanish, but they were swearing like sailors. 🤬🤣
