NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

Im surprised that people are surprised as to why there’s a huge political gender divide that we see today.
I got an answer: women gained power, men felt threatened that their place on top of the hierarchy and the intrinsic power that came with it is gone
The reason there is more racism is the same

Gonna say this very very very slowly

The main issue with putting your name on a protest list

is not whether the government has your name

It is you providing information about where you are/will be

That is *legally* actionable

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

If they can take away one minority's right to own firearms, they can take away any minority's right to own firearms.

If they can declare all transgender Americans "mentally unwell," it's easy to say the rest of LGBTQ Americans are mentally unwell.

They already say Dems are mentally unwell.

Texas is the biggest state in the country to have a bathroom ban on the books, and aside from local news and a few national nonprofits, the coverage of it is pretty small. There are over 160,000 trans adults in the state of Texas
Actually wild that the Texas legislature banned trans people from bathrooms in government buildings yesterday and it hasn’t gotten a whiff of news coverage in the Associated Press, NYT, WaPo, etc

I guess the national news biz is just shrugging at this stuff now?

FYI folks, the Big Holidays coming up are:

Rosh Hashanah is Mon 22 Sep-24 Sep
Yom Kippur is Wed 1 Oct - 2 Oct

And also? You don't have to KNOW who's Jewish to not schedule meetings these days. Just do it.

(AND DON'T BE ALL "WE HAVE TO MOVE IT BECAUSE [PERSON] IS JEWISH" THAT'S TACKY & GROSS)
PUT 👏🏻 JEWISH 👏🏻 HOLIDAYS 👏🏻 IN 👏🏻 YOUR 👏🏻 CALENDARS

The head of my org is Jewish. I have the Jewish holidays calendar on my work calendar so I don't schedule meetings during important holidays! I don't want him to have to do that calculus!
NASA scheduled a major workshop for early career researchers during the most important week of the Jewish calendar, during two of the most important days of that week and expects me to accept that this was “difficult scheduling conflicts”

That’s what casual antisemitism sounds like

reposted this today because the inverse is also true:

if you abandon trans people right now, you are abandoning civil rights period.

if you can't stand up for trans people when it matters, no one should, or will, ever trust you when the bullseye moves to the next target.
the thing about trans rights is that we fight the civil rights issues of our time. nazi chuds have made this the issue of our time.

it's not more *important* than other civil rights issues, but it is the battleground of the moment, and we have to meet the moment to support everyone's rights.
Centrists bigots and right wingers have this all backward. YOU are the ones constantly bringing up trans issues. I would be happy to not think about this shit every day of my life unless I was talking to or reading something by one of my trans friends and thought of it in passing. SHUT THE FUCK UP

This follows earlier reports that the guard reversed course and would soon be arming members in DC. Now we know they’re making sure they meet requirements if/when the order to arm them comes.
