If you ever thought that searching a library catalogue is complicated, be reminded: this is how a book (in manuscript or print) in octavo with five pages or more and less than ten was categorized in a sixteenth-century European collection (from Hernando Colón).

i've been dwelling on this conversation ever since sitting down with @robertjbennett.bsky.social, and in particular the question of the difference between liberal and conservative narratives--and what has been so unsatisfying about mainstream liberal narratives in recent times.

RULED BRITANNIA takes place in a late-16th-century England where the Armada won. Shakespeare is recruited to help an uprising against the occpiers. Spanish playwright Lope de Vega, who really was on the Armada, is trying to stop him. Forsooth! Verily!

About 25,000 years ago, this small figurine was beautifully carved from mammoth ivory. The ‘Lady of Brassempouy’ is one of the earliest representations of a human face! 🤯

Excavated in 1894 by Edouard Piette at Grotte du Pape, Brassempouy, Landes, France.

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.

I joke, but to be perfectly honest I think something was lost when all the secret societies (masons, Shriners, etc) fell out of fashion. Now our elites are cooking their brains in eugenicist group chats instead of of learning The Secret Rights of Solomon to ascend to the 15th Degree

Saving this for later to remind myself, because this book sounds cool as hell, but also terrifying-depressing. There is probably a term in the German language that encompasses that.

Anyway, if you follow me, sorry, don't read the thread this comes from if you don't want to scream into the void.
I can't tell if you would love or hate my new manuscript but it is exactly about this.

We have a strong knowledge of transness in western culture from 1900 on.
