New followers! I’m an academic & scholar who writes for the public about upstream prevention of violence & analysis of misogyny, white supremacist extremism & more. But my favorite essays are this trio I wrote about my mom & what it means to be forgotten. 1/

Perspective | My mother forgot who I was, and it made me a better daughter
Watching my mother’s erasure has been vicious. But I have also come to realize that despite all I’ve lost, I’ve gained something, too.

it is embedded in the report a problem with this item link, i think- and then you get a drop down…

gross.🤢

ugh. thank you

yes, that’s what it looks like

I wrote a whole book on tshirts like this. Did not expect to see one for sale at Walmart. You can report it (as I have) by scrolling down on the item’s page and reporting it for offensive or prohibited content.
Today's highlight of "Man Up: Conversations on Gendered Hate in the Digital Age", @milleridriss.bsky.social talks with Rachel Louise Snyder and Kaethe Morris Hoffer on how online conspiracy theories and intimate partner violence affect the real epidemic of sexual violence in the U.S.

I wasn’t sure how far it would be! I’m keeping fingers crossed for good weather too../

💯

I think the definition of “enormous” is the sticking point. It has to be in the billions and billions to outweigh the gains from running the ads. And enforcement? I’m hopeful-but-not-hopeful…

Things I can’t believe we still ask

This is one of the most important things to understand about why regulation of social media platforms won’t work, even if we can get it done, unless the fines are high enough to swamp the profit platforms get from running harmful content.
Meta earns $3.5 billion every six months from showing Faceboon and Instagram users 15 billion “higher legal risk” scam ad impressions a day, internal documents state.

That haul vastly exceeds how much the company expects regulators
To fine it for running scam ads.
