Currently reading this gem by Canadian sci-fi whiz Don Miasek while the kiddos are I karate.

Fun, gritty, immersive, and super well written!

In an effort to improve the accessibility of my books, I’m planning on reading some bestselling fiction authors (any genre). Right now now my list consists of:

- Stephen King
- James Patterson
- Terry Pratchett

Who else would you recommend #Booksky? 💙📚

I don't think I've ever felt the degree of respect for our veterans as I do this Remembrance Day. My grandparents fought fascists to keep my country free, and I am so grateful for their service. ❤️

An old English prof of mine recently corrected me for describing myself as "grizzly", saying "You mean 'grizzled'."

Dejected, I looked it up after and BOTH have a meaning of "gray or gray-haired". SO WHATEVER SMARTY PANTS.

Did you know that the full name of The Wizard of Oz is Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs, initials O.Z.P.I.N.H.E.A.D.? He's also a conman from Omaha, Nebraska.

I'm combining him, the Hellraiser guy, and hacker tropes in my #WIP.

Why I had a pastry just last month and now my kids can't go to college.
We're like 4 months away from nihilism as marketing/advertising campaigns.
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

I absolutely love when notifications pop up directly in front of the thing they're trying to notify me about and won't go away.

It's like "Let's take a moment to reflect on the absurdity of modern existence, and the 'hide and seek' nature of desire."

That's what they're going for, right?

Last night I did a podcast interview on Garden of Thought (formerly Garden of Doom).

The host has an interest in esoteric knowledge, including Gnosticism (as do I), and I realized that Gods of a New World mirrors the relationship between Sophia and Yaldabaoth (the imperfect creator/demiurge).

Yes, operator? I’m being catfished by a simulacrum.
OpenAI will allow ChatGPT to generate erotic written content for verified adults starting December, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said, prompting privacy, legal and safety concerns and predictions of commercialization such as premium pricing and potential data-collection risks.

Premise: you actually can find good info on the internet, pretty easily too, it’s just in different places; but all of the specific mainstream places, sites, and media companies where we spent the last 15 years being trained to find good info got replaced with asbestos, cults, and dopamine slopfeeds

I'm excited to be on two panels at this weekend's @canconsffh.bsky.social conference in Ottawa (also doing a book launch). Topics:

1) Yearning (and romance) in sci-fi
2) Building a better apocalypse

I actually see these as intimately related!

Watching occasional vids of not-bright guys "hacking" ChatGPT to take down the Illuminati. Loving the humanity of it all.
