Lydia Millet once told me "when in doubt, tinker"—don't try to plow ahead when things aren't flowing, go back and refresh your relationship to the material. For me, this often looks like typing instead of handwriting. Today, I move from notebook to typing for the first time on this new project.

You GOTTA stop being so desperately afraid of the audience. Look at me. Look in my eyeballs. Stop being so desperate for approval. Stop writing for the whiny babies in your audience and start writing for the freaks who like cool fucked up shit

I went FT freelance in 2019 to write my books, but the majority of my income came from freelancing for places like syfy or a writer's room where my name will never show up on the things I made. Then those ended and I had to go back to a day job. Can't survive on what my writing alone makes.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

I know a lot of people are already spreading this info, but hoping to spread it a little further: donating to a food bank, food pantry, or food distribution mutual aid group is really important right now, as TFG and the fucking GOP are shutting down snap benefits on November 1. I'll link to a few

My favorite aspect of the Columbus legend is him getting rejected by the Portuguese gets spun as them not recognizing the genius of his idea. No - he went into a roomful of expert navigators and made basic math mistakes, they thought he was a moron, and they wouldn't fund his idea on that basis.

It's #LetFreedomReadDay. We're asking you to do at least one thing today to fight censorship. Then keep doing it!

Left-Wing Terrorism Is on the Rise
For the first time in more than 30 years, attacks by the far left outnumber those by the far right.

Yes, this. You aren’t changing minds, you are merely participating in engagement farming which benefits them more than it does you.

It also sends an unfortunate message that their ideas are worth treating with *respect* and therefore socially *acceptable*. It suggests they offer a *legitimate* pov.
all i know is that normalizing debate with fascists has only facilitated the rise of fascism.
