Kind of wild how the take that some of Trump's supporters were "deplorable" was some huge scandal, but regularly screaming about "radical left scum" is just a thing he'll say with no media backlash.

Something that's getting lost in this story is that the "instructor" in question is not a professor with a PhD; she is a Graduate Teaching Assistant, meaning the University of Oklahoma has thrown one of ITS OWN STUDENTS under the bus to appease a right wing grifter who tried to dunk on a trans woman

This is profoundly un-American.

No—that's not right.

It's *anti*-American.

It's hatred of the United States and its founding documents and all its people and all its traditions.

The person who wrote and approved this is a weirdo who detests everything that America stands for.

My favorite thing about this list is that I haven’t heard of any of these books but the first one (from school reading) but I’m interested in reading almost all of them.

(Then I remember how bad I’ve been at finding time to read recently, but hey, that’s gotta change eventually 😅)
Speaking of which, I should do my list of books I loved this year. I read 64 books this year. Of those, I loved ten (I try to be really selective on like vs love). Here they are:
About ten years ago, I started keeping a spreadsheet of what I read for diversity (race/gender of author, but also non-US books, non-fiction, stuff like that). I don't have hard rules, but it just lets me know when I'm falling into a rut

Why is the new advertising trend on social media faking out a closing or going out of business post?

“Saying goodbye 😢…

…To sleepless nights!
…To our favorite prints as they leave the warehouse to ship to you!”

I just hate gimmicks.

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is.

GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.

But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

In maybe our peak parenthood moment so far, my wife and I both couldn’t fall back asleep at 5 am so we got up to finish the last hour and 45 minutes of the new Benoit Blanc movie that we watched the first 45 minutes of several nights ago and haven’t found time to finish.

As my middle of the night rants said: money is the water in the pipes and billionaires and wealth hoarding are clogs set to explode everything. The money is supposed to KEEP MOVING.
Around 70% of the U.S. economy depends on consumer spending. As wealth concentrates in the richest 10%, the rest of America can’t afford to buy enough to keep the economy running.

This is a huge problem — and even America’s most powerful CEOs are starting to sound the alarm.
Our Economy Is in Danger. Here’s Why

Bold claim given that the rates of AI-induced psychosis of people doing exactly this are staggering, and the connected death toll is climbing.

The idea that AI can “detoxify” people reframes emotional overwhelm as a software problem, and it treats loneliness and strain as things to route into a machine rather than conditions that require support, care, and structural repair. 1/*

Okay, hear me out: the economy, or society, or whatever is like plumbing and wealth hoarding (and billionaires) is like a giant clog in the pipes.

It’s why societies always rupture at a certain point of wealth hoarding or wealth gap—because there’s a giant block.

The more upsetting plot hole is that if the power went out, how come all the automatic timers their house (and all the houses on the block because I assume more than their house got knocked out?) still worked?

Yes, it’s illegal. Like changing it to Department of War, like ten thousand other things. Part of the Trump strategy is to break the law and convey “the rule of law is weak and feminine and laughable and should be overridden by Our Guy.” Trump is fundamentally anti-law.

By doing so here, the Trump Administration runs smack into the prohibition on Medicare and Medicaid regulating the practice of medicine (as opposed to deciding what they'll pay for). Congress recognized regulating the practice of medicine is a state function, not one for Medicare/Medicaid.
