Study: “The COVID-19 group had a significantly higher rates of bacterial infections, influenza virus infections, and mycoplasma infections”

Just like Spanish Flu, Covid is increasing the risk of bacterial infections.

THREAD: we urgently need to talk about babies & Covid - AGAIN.

A new paper has dropped looking at acute Covid-19 outcomes from Sep 2023-Apr 2024 by age for all England.

Except for deaths, babies under 6 mths old have HIGHEST risk of A&E, admission & SEVERE hospital admission across ALL ages 1/10

I’ve been using StoryGraph for 2ish years. It’s excellent, highly recommend.
Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before y’all start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.

therapists going to therapy this week has felt like that meme about venmoing the same $20 back and forth amongst your friends into eternity.... like, you're having the exact same bad time i'm having, but it's my turn to have a worse time so i can be ready to help other people through theirs tomorrow

The flawed and outdated Cochrane review on exercise in ME/CFS still hasn't been withdrawn, and continues to harm patients.
I saw a patient last week with ME who in 2023 was told by the MECFS service to ‘get back to the gym’. She did 20 minutes, collapsed and hasn’t walked since. The advice is still out there, still wrong and the harm is real.
Cochrane is stubbornly refusing to withdraw the 2019 review recommending exercise therapy for ME/CFS despite being supplied with ample evidence that it doesn't work and causes harm for #pwME with post exertional malaise.

therapy degree programs should be the most on top of this, but alas
Academic Ableism examples:

-Strict in-person attendance policies.
-Invisible goal posts and expectations.
-Unorganized syllabus and course schedules.
-Dense text without headings in syllabus.
-Images without image descriptions.
-Refusing to provide slides/materials in advance.

Reminder: Masks protect against all types of airborne viruses.

If another pandemic starts, masks will be a key first line of defense, especially as we won't have a vaccine right away.

Folks are shocked at the increase in racist, misogynist, ableist beliefs. Especially where “your body my choice” is concerned.

You know who’s not shocked? Disabled people. Those who’ve been fighting for Covid mitigations.

The masks came off years ago - Tuesday’s election just made it louder:
How Did We Get Here and What Comes Next?
Disabled people have been warning others for nearly 5 years that eugenicist Covid policies would lead to a rise of fascist, racist, bigoted, misogynistic hatred. It's here now. So what’s next?

one of the reasons bluesky works differently is because early users waged a successful fight to get the devs to prioritize safety features to protect communities at risk

as a result bluesky now has a suite of controls that i think are unmatched on social media

here’s the list, lmk what i’ve missed

I hear a lot of “we survived the first term and we will survive another”

Many people didn’t survive. They’re just no longer here to tell their stories.

We must tell them on their behalf and make sure people understand what’s at risk.
“We will survive him” 30,000 disabled people died waiting for their SSDI/SSI cases to be processed in 2023 after massive SSA cuts in 2017-2021

Biden’s SSA appointee couldn’t catch up fixes

Do you want voters to survive if you’re not even wearing a mask? #CripTheVote www.nextgov.com/digital-gove...
30,000 died in fiscal 2023 waiting for disability decisions from Social Security
SSA Commissioner Martin O’Malley sat down with Nextgov/FCW recently to talk through the agency’s biggest challenges, including how it delivers disability assistance.

Reasons to wear an n95:

1) COVID never ended

2) Unmitigated pandemics are a tool used to harm marginalized people & you won’t participate

3) CDC is tweeting about avian flu symptoms to watch for

4) It’s a real bad time to risk illness & disability

5) It offends MAGA
