Giving UK cars reduced tariff rates basically forced the US to give Japanese/EU (and likely Korean) cars a similar deal to get "negotiations" done, but the Trump admin is too stupid to 1) talk to Mexico/Canada or 2) not tariff parts for US cars. Play stupid tariff games win stupid tariff prizes.
I have to restate how insane this "deal" is from the US perspective, it's 5% more from the baseline, and it makes importing European cars cheaper than producing American cars
So the European automakers won, lol

Mark Carney agreed to cancel the Digital Services Tax as a show of good faith to keep trade negotiations going and Trump is still threatening Canada with 35% tariffs.

Why would anyone even try negotiating with the US when we’re this vindictive and untrustworthy?

worth pointing out, again, that a 20% tariff on Vietnamese imports alone (our sixth-largest trading partner!) would have been considered the worst trade war in modern American history pre-Trump. Instead it is now treated as a "deal". How far we've fallen.

Just a total collapse in US-China trade in the customs data released today—even after the tariffs were "paused", imports are down 55% from January and have fallen to the lowest levels in 20 years.

You know when things were pretty quiet and peaceful in L.A.? Before ICE started arresting residents who were bothering no one and going to their jobs. And before DHS and National Guard troops showed up and made the situation worse.

Of course Trump and Stephen Miller want the situation to get worse.

I can't stress enough how wrong and disingenuous the most recent wave of COVID revisionism is.

The *only period* when Democratic counties had higher death rates was April-May 2020. From June 2020 onwards, Republican laxity and denialism were the most powerful force driving deaths.

its crazy how dominant germany was in science (especially chemistry) in the 19th century, it was basically the international language for scientists, people came from all over the world to train at heidelberg etc, and then....
There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd.
It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

If China defeated the US in war and forced us to sign a treaty that would ensure a century of Chinese dominion in science and tech, they'd be smart to force the U.S. to:

- slash scientific grants in half
- reduce foreign students
- gut our manufacturing base

Instead, we're doing it all by choice.

For JDV supporters, simple yes/no test:
Does he believe what he's saying?

-If Yes, cognitive collapse. France /Germany *led* UN opposition to the war. (Remember 'Freedom Fries' to diss the French?) Did all they could to 'save the entire world.'

-If No, conscious, cynical, *provable* lie.

Which?
VP lecturing "the Europeans" again:

"...if the Europeans had been a little more independent, and a little more willing to stand up, then maybe we could have saved the entire world from the strategic disaster that was the American-led invasion of Iraq."

Yes, pity Paris and Berlin were so pro-war...
