Fonts are in the news, so I'm going to take the opportunity to port over an old thread: what was typography like in the Soviet Union?

Spoiler: they did not just have 1 font everyone had to use. As a matter of fact, there were 39.

One of them, you can see here, used to great effect for "Chernobyl."

There's no info on the website but it's someone called Stephen Jadie Coates: a former IP lawyer at Twitter.

As most of you can guess you should be staying away from this, lots of bad vibes

We find ourself in the dangerous position of having our public forums owned by billionaires who have extreme power to control algorithms that decide what we all see and don’t. That’s scary. I don’t know what we can do about that.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Anthony Albanese’s long-standing aversion is being written into law. Attorney-General Michelle Rowland’s Freedom of Information Amendment Bill 2025 seeks to tilt the system firmly away from disclosure, writes Jason Koutsoukis. satpa.pe/eRtqRtO
Inside Albanese’s FOI reforms: ‘He hates transparency’
Labor’s reforms to freedom of information laws are opposed by every public submission made to the Senate, with the government’s record on secrecy worse than Scott Morrison’s.

Chevron gets all the gas they export from Australia FOR FREE and sell it for massive profits. They have never paid PRRT and they got busted big time by the ATO for corporate tax avoidance.

But somehow they just have to cut 300-400 jobs.

The big swerve: Climate Change Minister @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social says Woodside’s NW gas plant is obliged to reduce ‘on site’ emissions under our safeguards pathway (net zero 2050). Operative word here is ‘on site’. This exonerates Woodside for emissions created by its export clients Japan, SKorea.

"The government needs to put aside its ineffectual maritime plan ... Only then will it be possible to protect Australia’s trade."
Nuclear submarines will do nothing to protect Australian trade if war breaks out
The government’s maritime plan is built on a deeply flawed foundation and cannot deliver what it promises — particularly in the event of war between the US and China.

We don't have good words to describe governments and companies that accept 'climate science', but will knowingly burn the world for short term gain.

Australia's government is openly planning to supply the fuel for the world's self destruction. I wrote about it, for @crikey.com.au -->>
Forget climate denial, Labor's tactical fatalism will burn us all
The climate movement is ill-equipped to deal with a threat that looks like this. Any fantasy we had of a global moral pact of good intentions is dead.
