Hello! I’m doing Sweat With Pride this month, exercising and raising money for the Burnett Foundation. I’d really appreciate donations!

My personal challenge this month is to do 1 pull up for every $2 donated (I will film some). Currently at 300 pull ups 😅

I’m taking on Sweat with Pride this June to raise money for our Rainbow communities! 💦🌈 Our schools, workplaces, and doctors’ offices are still not safe places for many Rainbow New Zealanders and it’s...

The number of people who say they hate celery, but when you ask “how have you tried it?” reply “raw. In chunks. Maybe dipped into something.”

Like, for fucks sake, how do you feel about chicken?

Every messaging service being always-online, every app having DMs, and smartphones in genral have cultivated a culture where younger people expect texts to be answered instantly. On top of Fucking Sucking Ass it leads to constant feelings of social rejection when people are just like, busy
i don't want to hear your most boomer complaint. what's your most millennial complaint?

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

great article about the devaluation of absolutely anything where women achieve 50%. which is a thing.

In a store, there’s a song on saying “It’s ok not to be ok” and. Like, on the one hand it’s good to make people comfortable seeking help and acknowledging their mental health problems and not demonising them. On the other, we’re in a mental health crisis and it has causes

Wellington Auckland line when
It’s over 1,000km from Berlin to Paris

There’s now a direct daytime train between them, that takes 8 hours and costs just €59. Leave at 10am, arrive 6pm.

And… it’s just 1% the carbon emissions of the equivalent flight

I do think about the statistic that Wellington has the highest proportion of queer people in the country, and the way the government is attacking Wellington, and wonder if there’s a connection. I think it’s clear that this isn’t the main reason, but maybe it’s playing a part

A drum I keep banging is that things like Welfare and Mimimum Wage and the Cost of Living are all issues for the arts
As cost of living increases, as wages stagnate, as housing becomes more precarious, it becomes harder and harder to be able to spend all your time doing weird shit.

Whole ecosystems reliant on people doing weird shit, dry up as their habitat is burned for a billionaire's profit.

Really the fundamental problem is that "guy who decides if you get to transition or not" is a job that shouldn't exist. Every other issue in trans care is downstream from that.

This shit is why I'm not really a fan of the blocklist functionality here. It's very to weaponise, and if there's one thing the 4chan-type internet dickheads are good at its exploiting things like this.

Be very careful about what blocklists you adopt.
ICYMI if you subscribed to this list, IMMEDIATELY UNSUBSCRIBE – they've added a bunch of trans ppl to it

I once got into an argument with coworkers applying for an endeavour, which was basically “the research you’re proposing is racist”
“ok, but money!”
“what about Vision Mātauranga?”
“oh shit I guess we have to change”
So I am personally 100% confident in one of the major consequences
When Judith Collins announced that Vision Mātauranga was now optional not compulsory in the Endeavour fund I sent her an OIA to try and understand what informed this decision. Did she talk to researchers? particularly Māori researchers? did she talk to iwi and hapū?

NB on the Marsden vandalism: I understand the TPU are going full culture-war over it, specifically targeting Māori and Pasifika researchers and declaring it a victory for 'science'. To which I would say, *actual* scientists understand this is a huge blow to the whole research sector.

I do think that the attacks on social sciences are part of a divide and conquer strategy tbh. I hope this doesn’t become another stem vs arts and humanities thing. The real enemy is neoliberalism. And also the current government, fuck those guys

If I really wanted to fuck up the economy for decades into the future, I’d probably siphon money from education, healthcare, infrastructure, and research into tax cuts for landlords, aggravate racial tensions, wreck the environment, and enter a military alliance against our largest trading partner
