ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

"No Kings" illustrates the uncomfortable truth about US politics: That the > 50% of white US people that want to turn the US into a white ethnostate (their words) is a lot of people. But the > 40% of white US people that don't want this, plus > 50% of brown people and > 90% of Black people, is more.

Talking about whether e-bikes should be governed at 12mph or 15mph or 18mph in a space where cars can go 90mph is a sure sign you've completely lost the plot

the thing I love about Zohran’s campaign is that instead of “this place fucking sucks and I alone can fix it” his message is “being a New Yorker rules, we live in the best city in the world, let’s make it even better together”

show some damn pride in the places you want to govern

I think you should be able to buy a cup of coffee or a bite to eat in America’s urban parks, and that the refusal to allow this is rooted in a fundamental misunderstanding of what urban parks are, and what purpose they serve.
American park concession policy drives me insane.

Here I am with my kid at the biggest park in Berkeley. There are hundreds of people here at birthday parties, playing tennis/basketball/frisbee, and running the dogs.

And yet the closest place to buy a *coffee* is a half mile walk.

If we’re being honest, the biggest threat to urban livability isn’t density or height. It’s the noise, danger, pollution, and wasted space that comes from prioritizing cars above all other modes of transport.

Illustrating, once again, why the effort to keep Seattle green should be about planting trees and preserving them in PUBLIC spaces, rather than a neighbor-vs.-neighbor battle in the media every time a homeowner wants to build on their own property. komonews.com/news/local/c...
Community gathers in support of preserving landmark tree at Seattle home
Neighbors in Seattle are hoping to save a massive sequoia tree from being torn out to redesign a home near Green Lake.

Why does WA have so many levies? Why are cities always running out of money? Why is the sales tax so high?

Because it’s illegal for property tax revenue to even match inflation!! Local gov’s are really gonna bear the brunt of this decision.

How about it, @atg.wa.gov? These fucking goons are snatching up our neighbors and targeting union organizers. So why don't we fight back?
Martin O'Malley just mentioned state attorneys general filing state kidnapping charges. Just imagine the collective cheer in this country if state troopers pulled over, arrested and cuffed a van full of masked ICE fascists.

Would the bicyclist still be alive if they were wearing a helmet?

If the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, are they at fault for being killed?

If the answer to one or both of these questions is no or "not sure"... WHY are we including this in articles like this?!

1/2
First, this is awful to see another person killed while biking.
Second, whether or not they were wearing a helmet should not be a top priority for the newspaper to be emphasizing.

Housing
Trees
Parking

You can only pick two

I would pick Housing and Trees, but a lot of what I heard at City Council was folks who already have nice warm stable Housing pick Trees and Parking for everyone else.

A single platinum Regular Roll is held in the Smithsonian archives, and serves as the official standard of toilet paper measuring.
Science Question: When they say "8 MEGA ROLLS EQUALS 32 REGULAR ROLLS" do the regular rolls exist...anywhere? Are they just in the imaginations of toilet paper marketers???

Do they make one tiny "regular" roll per year just to keep the story alive?
