oh so these people do pay attention to who politicians follow on social media, they just don’t care that the vice president follows a bunch of actual neo-nazis
Axios tried to bust James Talarico for following adult content creators on Instagram and I'm genuinely impressed by his campaign's response

Waiting to see who in the media will clearly state that Trump and Johnson have been lying for weeks saying these funds don’t exist
BREAKING: A federal judge finds the Trump administration "did not comply" with his order.
A hearing has begun over the enforcement of a federal judge's order to fund SNAP benefits through November.

Plaintiffs say Trump is holding "full SNAP benefits hostage for political leverage during the shutdown."

I’m on this weird dive about the doldrums lately and finished The Shadow-Line by Joseph Conrad this morning which is autobiographical about Conrad’s early life working as a sailor. The middle section is especially good depicting the creeping madness of being stranded helplessly on becalmed seas

The latest hellhouse LLC - lineage is without question the worst in the series. On top of being terrible, it’s incomplete, basically ending suddenly on a revelation that will be the subject of the next installment, a movie that, if there’s any reason left in the world, will never be made

I’ll be the first to say it. Welcome to Derry is going in a really stupid direction. But I’ll stick around because I have to see how it plays out.

1/ Thinking about my vampire book, now in that ether between completion and a contract, i have the breathing room for the abstract stuff. Bataille says existence is a discontinuity, being a separate living thing. Vampires are a paradox because death is the promise of a return to continuity but their

The weirdest part to me is how the people obsessed with living forever don’t really enjoy living now. They’re the same ones who read chatgpt summaries of books and look down on people who prioritize leisure. So it’s like they want to create a literal hell to exist for eternity on the permagrind.
I hate that I've now learned a new thing our tech overlords have bestowed on incredibly dumb people to toss into the discourse but here's some funny tweets about it

The "don't talk about social issues" strategy only works if you *admit that was your strategy after the fact*. We're in this doom loop where Democrats try something, gaslight themselves into believing they didn't try it, then decide to try it again.
"if we just don't talk about it, they can't hit us for talking about it" has been thoroughly discredited but we're going to keep trying it because the point was always that party elites/centrist Dems don't want to talk about those things, not whether it was good strategy/messaging to do so!

The really wild part is how many of the 20% are also part of the “close to half”
one of the most deeply infuriating aspects of american politics is close to half of americans would love if 20% of the country starved to death

Here’s a blurb about it from BR Yeager…

"Shelton expertly hauls the weirdness of Ashton Smith and Hodgson into the 21st century accelerationist security state. Suspect everything. Fear everything."

I’m watching Bloat on shudder and it’s pretty good. But as a psychiatric prescriber it’s absolutely hilarious that this dude is concerned his wife is taking pills again so he searches for the cvs receipt and it’s a low dose tricyclic antidepressant and he’s all “the fuckin pills again.”

This extends so far beyond politics. There is a broad fetishization of working class aesthetics as kind of the last remnant of the American ideal of rugged individualism but like everything in this country they want to sand off the edges and divorce the aesthetic from the experience of the thing.
i mean i don't think you can separate any of this discussion from the fact that so many of the participants are men who clearly have hang-ups about their inability to perform a certain kind of blue collar masculinity
