ACIP member Cody Meissner, a man who also served on ACIP in the before times, has said he takes “stong positions” against all of the presentations so far.

“There were so many statements that I don’t agree with that it’s hard to be succinct”.

The volume of review that this creates leads to the inevitable conclusion: if this lasts, and works the way it’s described, all courses at TX Tech will be out of the the box, off the manager approved shelf

Once again: this is not something that "threatens" academic freedom, though it will doubtless be reported that way. This is only possible where academic freedom has already ended.
TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

Librarians are the freaking best, y'all. Book it. Done.
Sometimes I think it’s going to be the librarians who will save us all.

I have scripts memorized for how to deal with students disrupting various lectures. I have plans I have rehearsed and chains of who to contact memorized. So far I've been fortunate in my current position, but every semester it's the same panic again and again.
I think straight and cis people really have no idea what things are like out there for the rest of us. I’ve received minimum one paper Like That per year since I started teaching, if not one or more per semester, all of which contained varying degrees of blunt hate speech directed *at me* lmao

This interview is a snapshot into where tech companies are with online harassment right now.

They know how to end it, but they decided not to spend the money. They’re prioritizing growth (and profit) above all else. And they’re blaming YOU for logging on to the platform they designed to be unsafe.

They also claim first film shown at the White House.

Nope.

Teddy Roosevelt enjoyed multiple screenings throughout 1908 and Woodrow Wilson watched CABIRIA (1914) to great public fanfare.

(Wilson was a racist but he didn't want to be known as one and he tried to keep his BOAN screening quiet.)

When they claim "first closeup" I presume they mean "edited closeup" because many of the first films were just closeups and nothing else.

But edited closeups were pioneered and popularized in 1900 by George Albert Smith to capture two important things: his cats and his wife's legs.

"Each crime makes MAGA more vulnerable and, thus, willing to take greater risks to avoid accountability"
I *think* the attempt to speedrun authoritarianism has failed. The new acute danger is greater political violence (Trump calling for hangings, etc). But the concerted danger is down the line, when MAGA realizes the bill for all this corruption will come due. www.offmessage.net/p/maga-disar...
