In the early decades after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded in 1830, its members endured intense political persecution and violence. Cast as social outcasts whose beliefs — especially polygamy— threatened mainstream Christianity, they were driven from their homes by mobs and state militias. Missouri’s infamous 1838 “Extermination Order,” labeling Latter-day Saints “enemies” to be “exterminated or driven from the state,” remains one of the starkest examples of government-sanctioned religious persecution in U.S. history. Their forced migration to the Salt Lake Valley stands as one of America’s largest displacements.

Once again: this is not something that "threatens" academic freedom, though it will doubtless be reported that way. This is only possible where academic freedom has already ended.
TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

I have scripts memorized for how to deal with students disrupting various lectures. I have plans I have rehearsed and chains of who to contact memorized. So far I've been fortunate in my current position, but every semester it's the same panic again and again.
I think straight and cis people really have no idea what things are like out there for the rest of us. I’ve received minimum one paper Like That per year since I started teaching, if not one or more per semester, all of which contained varying degrees of blunt hate speech directed *at me* lmao
