a thing about people flipping out about the phrase "toxic masculinity" is they seem to think it means "all masculinity is toxic" and not "there is a subtype of masculinity that is toxic and it is what is being referred to right now". i wonder if they have this problem with all adjectives

Stephen Lynch, aiming to be top Dem on the Oversight Cmte, blew up at a constituent who asked him to oppose the GOP.

"I get to decide that. I get to decide that. I get to decide that. I'm elected. I get to decide that. You wanna decide that? You need to run for Congress, okay? I get to decide that"

I hope everyone remains safe and also that people know that a corporate spaceflight of only women astronauts for a company owned by a deeply destructive billionaire who is enabling fascism is just public relations for fascism and has absolutely nothing to do with feminism

Watching institutions and leaders fold like cheap suits in front of abusive fascists is like being in the Birdbox movie.

You have to be aware it’s happening and deal with it but you can’t look directly at it because it’s so depressing and you need to stay energized to keep fighting it all.

A paper I always teach my students:

An empirical sound model that indicates harsher conditions either have no effect on crime or, quite possibly, make things worse.

Harshness is not about safety. It's about cruelty. With the data to show it.

it's kind of fascinating how none of the ideas on how to fix the crisis of masculinity (or male loneliness or whatever) are ever "men work on connecting with each other and being kinder to others"

"Age verification" laws are actually "upload your ID or get your face scanned to access every website, ending anonymity and associating your identity with everything you do online" laws and if more people understood that they would not be down for this authoritarian nonsense

The reason Elon keeps doing these blatantly corrupt money giveaways to incentivize voting is because, again, no one is stopping him or holding him accountable. A democracy that refuses to do anything but assume everyone acts in good faith isn’t a democracy at all
