I think about this every time I see someone argue "Sylvia Rivera wasn't a trans woman, she was a crossdressing gay man and a drag queen," as if that culture and practice is something we're appropriating and misnaming, instead of something we're deliberately erased from.

This is part of what I find so painful and lonely about the sense of utter separation today between androphilic trans women and gay men/gay culture. We either get treated like a completely separate thing, or like something that should belong to and be subsumed INTO gay men.
What strikes me is that the third-sexing of transfeminine people has not only always been related to male bisexuality and homosexuality—as a cultural practice—but that conventions allowing men to participate in queer sexuality traditionally DEPEND on a transfeminine third sex.
