if you want to understand why Trump would be trying to butter up Mamdani, keep in mind that Mamdani is planning on embarking on a total redo of New York City property taxes. Mamdani has a lot of power to inflict pain here.

if you throw the crown in the gutter, don't be surprised when the gutter reigns supreme
somehow the crown we threw in the gutter is going to be waiting for us to pick it up when we're able
Much like USAid, if the rest of the world wanted to replace what the US has done for the last 80 years, they would have been doing it already

A guy lands in an American airport in 2030. In the terminal, he shouts, "Who supported Trump in 2024?"

Everyone looks down. Some shuffle off. Finally, a man says "I did. I wasn't politically aware at the time. I regret it."

The guy says, "finally, an honest man—can you watch my bag while I piss?"

this is why we need to defund the fire department
Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

why has this weird man not done a shoot for balenciaga or vetements or prada yet
Dying at Review Brah wondering why the Baja Blast pie that *he himself just turned upside down in the box in order to read the back* looks all smashed up

I know we "do not gotta hand it to him" but referring to Trump as "the dog that hasn’t barked" is a level of poetry that has for a long time been missing from political life.

More scandals should involve a few artful aphorisms. It would keep our spirits light.

Very weird claim to suggest productivity isn't up honestly. It certainly seems to be up!

this guy wrote a book called "One Hundred Million Americans", presumably promoting extreme immigration enforcement and degrowth-oriented economic policy
Probably the single most effective thing any oligarch ever did to help entrench Republican Party political power was Mark Zuckerberg making a large investment in FWD.us to promote soft on crime and lax immigration policies.

it is extremely cool in a way that oratory is a kind of divergent art, where the top performers are marked by idiosyncracy
I have actually not seen Mamdani give a formal speech and what I’ll say is that unlike so many of his peers he is not trying to mimic anyone in his delivery. He is simply being himself and it is very effective.
I’ve been interested in political speeches for as long as I can remember. I’ve listened to nearly every inaugural and major address, and I’ve given tons of public speeches myself.

Zohran’s talent in this arena ranks among the best. He’s damn good. Hella good. Remarkably good.

Crazy to watch.

harpers gooning piece ignores the straightforward Zižekian read: gooning is when you pretend to have a crippling pornography addiction so the reasons your life is bad can seem inherent to you, and therefore within your control

People don't understand what Hakeem Jeffires has been doing. But it's simple. He knows that people love politicians who are visibly afraid to express their beliefs, and is pandering to them.
Hakeem Jeffries echoes Mamdani's affordability message, prompting CNBC host to ask: "Therefore you're endorsing Mamdani?"

Hakeem Jeffries nervously replies: "No, that's not what, that's not what I'm saying, that's not what I'm saying"

Personally i think it could ultimately be good that we're seeing the vandalism and destruction of the white house, in the same way that I think the cultural revolution and the bombing of dresden both cleared the way for eras less burdened by the weight of the past.
