My own thoughts on unions, education and public finance.
The University of Oklahoma is on Bsky (good for them, really!) They don't use it often, but I replied to their latest to make sure they see my thoughts on the moment. To extent folks worry bsky is an echo chamber, addressing our thoughts to folks in power matters

Amid today’s chaos, cruelty & economic concerns, we need to envision a future in which people see that the American dream is achievable for them. That means policies that enable working people to support themselves and their families without constant struggle and anxiety. www.aft.org/column/affor...

That Arne Duncan has apparently, like so many of us, become a wine mom is certainly a nicer thing than i ever thought I'd say about him.
Anyone else now wondering how, and why, Epstein died?
Ever wonder what happened to the missing prison film that would have recorded what happened at the time of his death?

Reports of the death of the bachelor’s degree have been greatly exaggerated. Enrollment is near pre-pandemic levels, real tuition is flat or down, and the college wage premium remains high.

I explore how the narrative became disconnected from the data.

This thread from @michaelhobbes.bsky.social is right. Because the IRA was done via reconciliation, its heavy on tax credits. I think that adds a level of complexity, It also makes the taxpayer, not the public more generally, the central actor in a way that obscures the Democrat's role. 1/3
This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

If I was a state legislator, I'd introduce a bill capping future buyouts for head coaches at state schools at a reasonable level. Coaches get high compensation ostensibly in part because there's risk. Part of our problem in society is a culture of bailing out the elites.

This week's episode of Law and Order, entitled "Bend the Knee," was, without naming it, about Trump's impact on the rule of law. Its the first decent pop culture depiction I've seen of what's going on.

I didn't realize @aaronregunberg.bsky.social was writing for TNR, or here. This on Klein is great, and he is worth following, particularly if he starts posting more about state politics and policy. H/T to @dkjrhi.bsky.social
“…asking the right questions, but pushing the wrong answers…”

This, from @aaronregunberg.bsky.social, is the smartest critique of Ezra Klein’s egregious era that I’ve seen.

Glad to see Adam Silver is using game time to defend his tenure as commissioner. Interviewer asking him how tough it is that scandal is taking attention away from game, while they are taking attention away from game.

I did it because the government isn’t.

Not that far from my home.

The Declaration's recitation of tyranny includes: "He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance."
This morning I was filming ICE abducting sometime in Petworth. One of the agents told me "the last US citizen that did this he put in cuffs all the way to the courtroom".

This thread is good. I still want @govwesmoore.bsky.social to speak up on failure of the Gov's Association, where he is Vice Chair, to oppose federal deployment of Guard into states over objection of their governor & in defiance of sense. But I appreciate what he says here & his leadership generally
This is the latest chapter in a campaign of cruelty and recklessness that is breaking essential programs that working people rely on, driving up prices, disrespecting working families, pushing up the nation’s unemployment rate, and sending America’s economy into a ditch.

This is an excellent illustration of how an apparently limited space of lawlessness can be arbitrarily expanded to encompass everything

Every bit of good news and pushback should be lifted up.
Earlier today, prosecutors dismissed the felony charges against Paul Ivery, the man being arrested in this video.
A man was just chased and arrested outside of the Broadview ICE facility in Chicago. When legal observers from the National Lawyers Guild asked why, an agent threatened to arrest them too.
