Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

That sound you heard was every GOP elected official with a lick of sense absolutely SHITTING themselves thinking about the visual of Mark Kelly back in uniform before a military court as Whiskey Pete's handpicked chucklefucks try to railroad him on bogus charges.

This is the exact inverse of Trump's "I alone" strict-father BS, which is powerfully coded in American brains. And verily, this is how we win.
Trump: "Hear me, President Trump, when I say this: to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us."

They are also intentionally conflating machine-learning and generative AI slop to confuse and try to make GenAI seem necessary. Google Maps traffic stuff is machine learning, not GenAI, for example. Auto-correct is too. Don't let them make you lose the thread. GenAI slop is slop.
the nyt posts this stuff like avoiding AI for 48 hours is hard and meanwhile i have literally never once intentionally used an AI program for anything ever

Want to see how far right the Republican Party has gone?

Watch George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan answer a question about illegal immigration during a 1980 debate.

They wouldn’t even be allowed in today’s Republican Party.

WE ARE THE ALGORITHM
If something is bad, don’t make it sound even worse

If something is good, don’t make it sound like the One Weird Trick that can fix everything

If something sounds like it could be right, but you know it’s wrong, don’t write or reshare it

Double check stuff before amplifying

Just a reminder before the “big announcement” today.

Autism was discovered in 1911 and the modern definition of Autism came in 1943.

Tylenol wasn’t widely used until the 1950s.

Anyone trying to tell you that Tylenol causes Autism isn’t someone that should be taken seriously.

Hey, as a librarian I have to tell you

You don't have to finish a book that doesn't interest you. Life's too short for that. Not your jam? You have my permission to move on to the next book.

Another for the “single chords that make all the difference” file: the bright bVI in this Michael Jackson chorus—appropriately enough, under the “light” in “sunlight.” It’s a little jolt that makes the whole thing wake up, like a second wind. #dailysong youtu.be/5X-Mrc2l1d0

Do all those hustle culture guys whose schedule is like…

Wake up at 4am.
Eat a tiny meal.
Exercise for 15 minutes.
Tiny snack.
10 minute nap.
Splash around in a bowl of water.
Get dressed in practical clothes already laid out.

…realize that’s the same agenda as a literal baby?
